Zane Deuel Chapman was born November 6, 1957 in Hominy, Oklahoma. He was the youngest son of H. M. Rusty Chapman, Jr. and Pasty Ruth Chapman (Powell). Zane was raised and attended school in Cleveland, graduating from Cleveland High School in 1976. During his childhood and teenage years, Zane attended and was a member of the First Christian Church.
Upon graduation from high school, Zane entered into an apprenticeship through the United Association of Journeyman and Apprentices, Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Local Union 430, Building and Metal Trades Branches, A.F.L. - C.I.O. Upon completion of four years of apprenticeship in the building trades industry through on the job training and related classroom instruction under the supervision of an experienced journeyman, Zane was awarded a certificate of completion. He then worked on numerous projects through Local 430 in the Tulsa and Ponca City areas. Zane made his home in Tulsa for the past thirty-years.
After receiving the Gift of Life through a kidney transplant at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas in 1999, Zane was medically retired and began to travel throughout the United States. In his travels, he made his way through every state except for Alaska and Hawaii. He especially enjoyed traveling to Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans as he loved Jazz, Dixieland and Blues music. He spent many hours in the Bourbon Street area of New Orleans, Beale Street in Memphis and in Nashville. With the advent of Sirius Radio a few years ago, Zane was provided the media to listen to Jazz/Blues music all the time. When he wasn't listening to music, Zane enjoyed talk radio, especially Sirius Left, Channel 146.
Zane loved to visit and meet new friends in his travels everywhere. He was much like Will Rogers described as never meeting a man he didn't like. He recently returned from a trip to the Northeastern United States including Maine and Vermont. While traveling, Zane also enjoyed finding great places to dine. He often looked for hangouts and restaurants that provided a better taste of the local fair.
Zane was an avid University of Oklahoma Sooner football fan. He attended on numerous occasions the annual AT&T Red River Rivalry (formerly the Red River Shootout) between the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns. Additionally, during his travels he attended many other University of Oklahoma Sooner away games.
Zane passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa at the age of forty-nine years, eight months and five days. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pat Chapman and a brother, Frank Chapman.
He is survived by his father, H. M. Rusty Chapman, Jr. of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two brothers and their wives, Hugh and Debi Chapman of Bristow, Oklahoma and Vern and Karen Chapman of Owasso, Oklahoma; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland with Emile Bayouth officiating. Following cremation, he will be interred in the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland.
