Wilma Ruth Shipman was born October 30, 1915, the daughter of William and Mattie Lee (Lloyd) Watts. As a young girl Wilma moved with her parents to Osage where she was raised and received her education. Soon after graduation Wilma was united in marriage to John Dowell Shipman on December 15, 1934, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. They established their initial home in Osage where they lived for several years. They also made their home in Kansas, Texas and parts of Oklahoma following the railroad. In 1944, the couple returned to Cleveland where she has continued to reside.
Wilma loved sewing, cooking, canning and gardening. During holidays Wilma enjoyed cooking for her family. Wilma would always enter her vegtables in the Home Demonstration Fair and won numerous awards for her accomplishments. One thing that Mrs. Shipman did was no matter what time you would arrive at her home she always had something for you to eat.
Wilma Ruth Shipman, of Cleveland, Oklahoma, age 92 died Sunday, August 17, 2008, at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors are her two sons Dr. Ronald Lee Shipman and wife Margaret of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Dr. Larry Shipman of Crawfordsville, Indiana, one brother Adrian Watts and wife Lorene of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, one sister Doris Storm of Cleveland, Oklahoma, two grandchildren Cheryl Wilkinson and husband Kent of Edmond, Oklahoma, Stephanie Ellstrom of Minneapolis, Minnesota, three great grandchildren Michael Wilkinson of Edmond, Oklahoma, Rachel Wilkinson of Edmond, Oklahoma, Bella Ellstrom of Minneapolis, Minnesota as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Chapel Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. David Head officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
