William Stephen Cable better known as Bill to his family and friends passed from this life on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age 70 years, eight months and twenty-nine days. Bill was born September 27, 1942, in Wildhorse, Oklahoma; the son of Lowell and Anola (Bowman) Cable. As a young child Bill moved with his parents to Hominy where he attended school and graduated from Hominy High School with the Class of 1960. After graduation Bill joined the local National Guard Unit in Hominy. Bill moved to Tulsa where he attended school to become a drafter. He later accepted employment with a local company where he worked for several years. At the height of the Vietnam War, Bill joined the United States Air Force on April 24, 1963. He served his country with pride and dignity during the Vietnam War. He was a weapons loader for the Douglas A-1 Skyraider. The aircraft played an important part in the Southeast Asia War. ItÃs ability to carry an immense amount of weapons and stay over the battlefield for extended periods of time. This aircraft provided close air support to ground forces, attacked enemy supply lines, and protected helicopters rescuing airmen downed in enemy territory. He was later transferred to England where he served the remainder of his duties as a weapons loader on the Convair F-106 Delta Dart. Bill was honorably discharged on May 18, 1967, and he returned to Hominy, Oklahoma. Bill was united in marriage to Donna Rose Swan on June 24, 1967, in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the First Baptist Church. Bill and Donna moved to St. Bernard, Louisiana where he was employed as a rough neck in the Gulf of Mexico for Kerr McGee, later Bill accepted employment in Gainesville, Texas for Sinclair where he worked as a gang-hand on the pipeline. Bill and Donna remained there until 1972. Then Bill moved his family to Bartlesville where they lived for a short time before moving to their current home in 1973. Bill continued to work for Sinclair which was later purchased by Arco. He worked in the Cushing and Drumright area where he was the station operator until 1994, when he retired after 21 years. Bill also worked for Halliburton in conjunction with his daily job as a pumper for many years as well as for himself as an independent oil producer in Osage County. Bill had many pastimes. They include genealogy, coin collecting as well as guns. He also had for many years bee hives which he tended too. He enjoyed going fishing and hunting but most of all he loved seeing his grandchildren play sports and never missed an opportunity watch them. He took his family on several memorable vacations to Branson, Missouri, Hawaii and a trip to New Mexico which included a drive down Highway 550 from Bernalillo, New Mexico to Montrose, Colorado. Bill and Donna also took a trip to Las Vegas to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Bill was a very opinionated as well as vocal about his beliefs and strong supporter of the Republican Party. Bill was very well versed when it came to politics or current events in the news. You could almost guarantee that he would try to persuade you to believe that he was right. If you didnÃt believe he was right, Bill would most certainly began using a language all of his own to convince you otherwise which his children referred to as creative cussing. Bill was very proud and patriotic person and was very humble about the time he served his country. Most of all in life Bill felt honored that he and Donna raised four children that are responsible and hard working. Survivors are his wife Donna of the home four children Toni and her husband Jeff Guinn of Ft. Worth, Texas, Cristy and her husband Daniel Owens of Hominy, Oklahoma, Stephen and his wife Katherine Cable of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Melody Cable and her husband Rob Freeman of Owasso, Oklahoma; mother Anola Cable of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; two brothers Grant and Kathy Cable of Coos Bay, Oregon, Nevyle and Carol Cable of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren Jared Guinn, PFC Ethan Guinn, Dillon Owens, Derek Owens, Cassie Owens, Ladonn and her husband Brody Kennedy, Kalvin Ledbetter, Johnny Ray Cable, Will Cable, Parker Grace Freeman; two great-grandchildren Kaylee and Raylan Kennedy, two brothers in laws John and Jerry Swan, sister in law JoAnn Hewitt as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Lowell Keene Cable and one brother Eschol Cable. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. David Head officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
