William Albert “Bill” Sneed, a longtime resident of Cleveland, Oklahoma, died Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of 80 years old.
Bill was born October 22, 1936, in Ashland, Kansas, the son of Orval William and Sylvia Bell (Stapp) Sneed. As a young child, Bill moved with this parents to Skiatook, Oklahoma. During this time, Bill began his education in Skiatook. He later commenced working, and after that was drafted into the United States Army where he was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. Following his honorable discharge, Bill returned to Skiatook and gained employment with Bigheart Pipeline. Bill was united in marriage to Carolyn Joan Young in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and the two established their home in Cleveland, Oklahoma, where Bill started working with his Father-in-law, Ed Young, laying and installing water lines and road crossings for rural water districts. After that, Bill commenced purchasing oil leases which he later grew into a family business and became an independent oil producer.
Bill was a loving husband, father and poppa, as well as a true and loyal friend to many, including Toots, his buddy for 17 years. Toots rode thousands of miles to and from the leases with Bill, and when Bill stopped for lunch, Toots was ordered a cheeseburger too. Bill was considered by many to be a problem solver in the oilfield as well as being able to solve problems on anything mechanical, including vehicles. One of his passions other than working was building and racing cars in Oklahoma and Kansas which included weekends spent going to the races with Rusty, Charlie, Kerry, Robby, Gerald, Billy and Bud.
Survivors are his wife Joan of the home, two daughters, Angie Miller and her husband Matt of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Blair Dixon and her husband Brett of Cleveland, Oklahoma; one sister Mable Love of Collinsville, Oklahoma, six grandchildren Jake Miller, Regan Miller, Edison Miller, Hayleigh Gilbert, Averi Phipps and Greysi Dixon; his Skiatook family Bob and Leota Kehler (Uncle and Aunt), Robby and Roberta Kehler, Gerald and Jan Barnes, and his brothers and sisters-in-laws, Linda Gowdy, of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Marion Crown, of Owasso, Oklahoma, Vicki Young, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Dale and Marsha Young, of Dallas, Texas, and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his in-laws Ed and Opal Young, Lee and Jean Young, Bob Young, Margarett Crown, Blake Gowdy, Ronnie Love, and by his faithful dog, Toots.
