Heaven became brighter on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, as Viola Rozena Sneed, 91, entered its gate to be greeted by her husband, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and scores of other relatives and dear friends.
Viola Rozena Bishop was born on May 18, 1927, in Keystone, Oklahoma to Oklahoma pioneers Stanley Walker Bishop and Gracie Agnes Bunch. She was named after both of her grandmothers, Viola Griggs Bunch and Rozena Lillian Flanagan. She attended schools in Collinsville, Owasso, Cleveland, and Keystone. Rozena was an avid reader, outstanding student, and accomplished basketball player. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class of Keystone in 1945. Following high school, Rozena attended Draughn’s Business College in Tulsa. After graduation she worked in Tulsa as a secretary and stenographer for Dresser Industries. On September 7, 1947, Rozena was united in marriage to Clyde Cecil Sneed in Keystone, Oklahoma. The couple welcomed two daughters into their family: Linda Sue, on January 21, 1949, and Cathy Anne, on July 8, 1951.
Rozena worked a full-time job as a farmer’s wife and mother to two girls. She always raised a huge vegetable garden and canned many quarts of fruit and vegetables. Rozena continued with this skill as she won many county fair prizes for her canned goods throughout the years. She always maintained beautiful flower beds, helped with the farm work, including their herd of Hereford cattle, and did all the tax records and bookkeeping. Rozena was active in her community and participated in a number of organizations. She served as election inspector and clerk in both Terlton and Cleveland for 18 years and was a true patriot. Rozena was a member and officer of TOPS, the Happy Homemakers Club, and the Cleveland Hospital Auxiliary. Her many interests and hobbies, including researching her family genealogy, crocheting beautiful potholders, doilies, tablecloths, embroidering dresser scarves, hand stitching pieced quilts, sewing garments for herself, children, and grandchildren, gardening as well as traveling. Rozena won many county fair prizes for her sewing projects.
Rozena traveled extensively over the years taking trips to visit family and friends. She visited almost every state in the United States and especially enjoyed her international trips to Israel, Germany, France, Switzerland, Mexico, and Panama. Rozena has been a devout Christian and a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene. She and Cecil were founding members of the Mannford Church of the Nazarene and over the years attended both the Hominy and Cleveland Nazarene Churches. Rozena has served in every capacity: VBS director, Sunday School teacher, board member, church treasurer, missions president, ladies ministry president, local and district choir, and representative to church conferences also attending several general church conferences.
Rozena is preceded in death by her husband Cecil Sneed, brother John Bishop, parents, Stanley and Gracie Bishop, and grandparents, John and Rozena Bishop, and Joel and Viola Bunch. Survivors include her two daughters Linda and her husband David Worcester of Victoria, Texas, Cathy and her husband Jim Barkley of Loma, Colorado; four grandchildren, Marcus Worcester, Jennifer and husband Charles Mueller all of Victoria Texas, Kristen and husband Andres Madril of Grand Junction, Colorado, James and wife Laura Barkley of Chicago, Illinois; five great grandchildren Emily Hardcastle, Kaleb Worcester of Three Rivers, Texas, Sarah Worcester of Victoria, Texas, Tucker and Ally Woods of Grand Junction, Colorado to mourn her death
Family will receive friends and family from 4:00 pm till 7:00 pm Tuesday, May 29th at the Chapman Black Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, May 30, at the Cleveland Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to any of the following organizations: Cleveland Area Hospital, Cleveland Church of the Nazarene, Jay C. Byers Library, and Meals on Wheels for Seniors.
Pallbearers will include George Goza, Dwaine Gray, Wayne Lawrence, Andres Madril, Alvin Proctor, Lynn Quick and Fred Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Sneed and Steve Sneed
