Vicki L. Lauersdorf

Vicki Lynn Hegdal Lauersdorf was born on April 1, 1958 in Amarillo ,Texas . She was the daughter of Hayden Glenn and Clara Mae (Smith) Hegdal. Vicki moved with her family at early age to the Fort Worth area where she received her education and graduated from high school. Shortly after graduation from high school, Vicki met Michael Duane Fitts on July 4, 1974. They soon fell in love and were married at the Calvary Baptist Church on March 1, 1975 in Andrews, Texas. While residing in Andrews the couple had two children, Zeke and Brandi. They then moved their family to Cleveland, Oklahoma and in 1981 they welcomed their second son, Joseph. They later moved to Cleburne, Texas where their second daughter, Michelle was born. In 1990 they divorced, but they stayed close. Vicki later met and married Paul Lauersdorf, but after 15 years of marriage their lives took a different path. At the time of her death she was living with her daughter, Brandi in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Vicki spent countless hours driving a big rig on the highways of America during her lifetime. She worked for NASA hauling Delta 2 Rockets her all time favorite job; she also drove as an independent truck driver for many years. Some of her children's fondest memories were riding on the open road with their mother driving to places like the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and to Niagara Falls. She also loved to read to them no matter if she did it in person or over the phone. On one memorable trip to Galveston Beach , they recalled Vicki getting so sunburned after putting baby oil on for a better tan that Paul had to put her in a bath of ice water, he read to her all night long. Vicki was described by her family as a strong willed, loving and generous mother and grandmother who loved her family unconditionally and adored her grandchildren. Her and her granddaughter Gracelyn were thick as thief's. Whenever her grandchildren heard that she was coming to see them their eyes would light up and they would get all excited. The one thing that she would always say is "You can either be happy or you can be sad/mad about the situation, but the situation will stay the same". Reflecting upon Vicki's life it can be revealed that she loved her family. Throughout her handwritten genealogy she refers to the love and significance of family. She wrote of two uncles on her father's side, Babe and Joe that were prisoners of war during World War II in Japan and actually walked in the Bataan Death March. She also wrote of her mother's brother, Weldon and his family that endured the hardship of a devastating tornado in Wichita Falls , Texas in 1963. Throughout her writings she refers to the love experienced between her entire family and the importance of family to each and every one of them. Vicki enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She loved to make scarves and provided them for family and friends. She also loved to make clothes for the girls. She enjoyed old time country music much like most big rig truck drivers. She was an avid reader and especially liked autobiographies and fiction novels and so loved to read to anyone that would listen. Vicki not only loved her family she also loved her family's friends and becoming a second mom to all. As her children would often bring home friends, they all wanted to stay as long as possible. She had an open door policy for them. She didn't see eye to eye with everyone but she still loved and was loved by her family and friends. She loved her older sister Kim and looked up to her. Vicki passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of fifty-six. She was preceded in death by her father, Hayden Glenn Hegdal. Vicki is survived by her mother, Clara Mae Alexander of Plano , Texas ; two sons, Zeke Fitts of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Joe Fitts of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two daughters, Brandi Fitts of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Michelle Fitts of Cleveland, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Maddox Fitts, Cailen, Gracelyn, Abel Owens, Landry Fitts, Logan and Drakus Summers; brother, Larry Graham; and a sister, Kim Lawrence of Plano, Texas.
