In Blanchard, Oklahoma, Vernon Leroy Brown Jr., 68, passed from this life on December 6, 2020.
Vernon was born on January 13, 1952, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Vernon Leroy, Sr. and Bonita Maye (Comer) Brown. Vernon was raised and received his education in Cleveland, where he later graduated with the Class of 1970. Following high school, Vernon began working with his father in the oil field. On October 16, 1971, at the Cleveland First United Methodist Church, Vernon was united in marriage to Tena Gwyn Groves. Vernon and Tena resided in Cleveland for a short time before moving to Sand Springs later to Stillwater then to Blanchard. In the 1974, Vernon accepted employment with Otis Elevator and worked as an apprentice. Vernon also worked for Montgomery, Dover, and then for Midwestern Elevator who was purchased by Otis. He often stated that working for Midwestern was his favorite employer. In 2011, Vernon retired in as an elevator repairman from Otis Elevator Company after over 40 years in the elevator trade.
Motorcycles, old cars, computers, reading, westerns, and guns were some of Vernon’s favorite things to do. He, his father, and his brother took numerous motorcycle trips throughout the United States and Canada. Attending bike rally’s going fishing in Canada, and riding the mountains were some of his most memorable things to do. He was also a compassionate man who would help anyone without being judgmental.
Survivors include his wife Tena of the home, two siblings Mikal Brown of Cleveland Oklahoma, Lisa Brown of Cleveland, Oklahoma; in-laws William and Evelyn Marshall of Shawnee, Oklahoma; Don Groves of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, brother in law Tim Groves of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Terry Groves and his wife Arley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, sister in law Tami Bales and her husband William of Stillwater, ––Oklahoma; nieces and nephews Jennifer Zickefoose of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Jason Brown and his wife Rachana of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Kameron Kendrick of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Corbin Peters of Pryor, Oklahoma, Misty Harris, Emily Everett, Jennifer Bales, Kaylee Groves and a host of other relatives and friends. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Bonita, and his stepmother in law Gloria Groves.
At 1:00 pm, December 10, 2020, services will be held at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel, with burial to follow. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Friends and family may visit an online guest book and memorial page for Vernon Lee at www.chapman-black.com.
