Vernie Loraine Kinney

Vernie Loraine Kinney was born July 14, 1912 in Aikens, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Richard R. and Mary Ann ''Mollie'' Taylor. She attended school in the Aikens area before moving with her parents, four brothers and six sisters, at the age of twelve to the Keystone area, near Cleveland.

Vernie was married to Lewis ''Dago'' Kinney on March 18, 1929 in Cushing, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Drumright and then later returned to the Keystone area. They had three children, Gerene, Doyle ''Red'' and Jerry Ray.

It could be said, Vernie was a fishing widow, as ''Dago'' was an avid fisherman and spent countless hours enjoying his favorite pastime. However, Vernie was always ready to prepare the fish when Dago brought home his catch or can the vegetables they grew together in their garden. .

Vernie was a longtime member of the Westport Baptist Church where the couple faithfully attended. She was a member of the Reapers Sunday School class and the Westport Kitchen Band. Additionally, she was an active member of the Happy Sewing Club.

Dago preceded her in death on October 11, 2001 after seventy-two years of marriage. In addition to her husband, Vernie was preceded in death by her two sons, Jerry Ray on September 8, 1943 and Charles Doyle ''Red'' Kinney on July 4, 2001; three brothers, Clabe, Richard and O. B. Taylor; and five sisters, Nellie Minner, Ida Taylor, Ica Taylor, Tennie Carter and Bernice Golden.
