Vera Ruth Walters was born June 6, 1920 in rural Osage County, Oklahoma near Prue. She was the daughter of Jack and Edna (Dent) McNair. Ruth was raised and attended school in Prue, graduating from Prue High School in 1938. Ruth was married to William ìBillî Walters on December 12, 1953. Bill and Ruth joined two families together in their marriage, Bill having two children, Donald and Jeanne; Ruth having two children, Gerry and Johnny; and later the couple had two children, Steve and Kelly. They made their home for a few years in Muskogee where Bill was working and then later moved to Pawhuska where they owned and operated the Walters Plumbing and Electric Company for a several years. In 1979, the couple moved to Cleveland. Additionally, Ruth had worked as a cashier/clerk for Safeway and K-mart prior to her marriage to Bill. In 1978, the couple started the WalterÃs Control Company and established an international business, shipping products and supplies world-wide. Ruth was active in the management and production areas of the company. For many years the couple was members of the First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland. Ruth enjoyed reading and traveling and especially loved spending time with her family. After the death of her husband, Bill on May 12, 2000, Ruth continued to reside in their home for a few years before moving to the Baptist Retirement Center. As her health deteriorated she later moved to the Bartlesville Care Center where she passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the age of eighty-nine. In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack McNair; two sons, Donald Ray and Steve Walters; a grandson and a great-granddaughter. Ruth is survived by four children, Gerry Mac Leonard of Punta Gorda, Florida, Johnny Dale Walters of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dr. Anita Jeanne Russell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Kelly Pinson of Bisbee, Arizona, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends may share a memory with the family at the funeral home or online at www.chapman-black.com. A private committal service will be held immediately following the chapel service at Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
