Vera Christine Yarbrough, affectionately called Punkin by all who knew her, was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 21, 1942. She was the daughter of Berniece (Thayer) Yarbrough and Zeke Yarbrough. Punkin was raised in Wildhorse and attended school at Wildhorse, Hominy and Prue. While attending Prue Schools, Punkin excelled in basketball being named all conference during her freshman season On May 2, 1958 Vera was united in marriage to Russell Leo Patterson. To this union were born three children, Chrissie Sue, Terry Lee and Robin Lynn. Russell succumbed to cancer in November of 2005. On February 21, 2009, Vera was united in marriage to Jackie Cavin and the couple established their home in Prue. Vera was known for her gardening, cooking and sewing skills. She will be remembered by all for her candy making ability which was simply the best. She and her sister-in-law, Dorothy loved to attend garage sales and search for treasures at estate sales. She was first of all a homemaker, yet she retired in August of 2010 from Dick Conner Correctional Center in Hominy where she had worked as a cook in the kitchen for nearly eighteen years. Vera was extremely athletic, hardworking and loved to be outdoors. In addition to her husband, Russell, Vera was preceded in death by her mother, Berniece Perrier and father, Zeke Yarbrough. She is survived by her husband, Jackie Cavin of the home; children, Chrissie Clark and husband Volley, Terry Patterson, Robin Bryan, Chad, Chance and Chase Cavin, all of Hominy and Jason Cavin of Cleveland; five grandchildren, Brandy Patterson, Andrea Bradley, Teri Lynn Surritt, Whitney Patterson and Bobby Patterson; and ten great grandchildren. Vera also leaves behind sisters, Melvina Prather and Linda Galipeau, both of Hominy, and Lee Ann Ammons of Pawhuksa; brothers, Jim Perrier of Hominy and R. E. Yarbrough of Pawhuska; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends who will miss her dearly. Vera left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Prue with Rev. Garry McDevitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Prue Cemetery.
