Thelma R. ''Velva Rae'' Green was born June 24, 1924 in Webb City, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of James Leon and Naomi Christine Clements. Velva was raised near Pawhuska and attended school in Wynona, graduating from Wynona High School in 1942.
Upon her graduation from high school, Velva worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Pawhuska for a few years prior to her marriage to John S. T. Green. The couple was married in Sedan, Kansas on May 26, 1946. The couple traveled significantly over the next thirty years as John spent his career in the Air Force. The couple was stationed primarily in San Antonio, Texas and Altus AFB, Oklahoma.
Upon retirement, the couple moved to Cleveland where they established their home. Velva loved all types of craft work including, crocheting, quilting, ceramics and embroidery. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland.
Velva passed away on Monday, December 17, 2001 at her home in Cleveland at the age of seventy-seven years, five months and twenty-three days. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Pruitte L. Clements.
Velva is survived by her husband, John S.T. Green, of the home; sister-in-law, Jimmie N. Clements, Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Clements, Duncan, Oklahoma; a brother, J. Randall Clements, Houston, Texas; nephew, Jim Clements, Durango, Colorado; niece, Hyla Y. Hill, Houston, Texas; and another niece, Trudy L. Waggoner, Marlow, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 20, 2001 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. Blessing Yap officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
