Velta Mae Smith of Osage, Oklahoma, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the age of 46. Velta was born November 13, 1962 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma the daughter of John H. and Naomi Lea (Horton) Smith. Velta grew up in Bartlesville where she began her education and later graduated from College High School in Bartlesville with the Class of 1980. During her time in high school Velta was an active gymnast. She competed at numerous events and was a part of the team that qualified for State. After high school Velta enrolled at Rogers State University. She worked as a manger of a convenience store at Oak Park Village in Bartlesville during her time in college as well as raising her children. She soon completed her education and accepted a position with Phillips. Phillips later sold the division that Velta worked for to Platt Automation. She continued working for Platt for several more years as a precision machinist. In 1994, Velta moved to Osage, Oklahoma. During her time in Osage she worked at Judy AnnÃs, Kentucky Fried Chicken and a manager for Sonic in Cleveland. Velta was a lady of many talents. She also loved playing the piano. Velta had played the piano since she was three years old and began playing for her church at the age of five. She also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors. She loved to fish as well as garden. Velta had a special place in her heart for abandoned animals. She would take in many strays and nourish them back to health on numerous occasions. Survivors are her children Bryan Randall Daniel of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Rachel Lea Daniel of Norman, Oklahoma, Helen Nicole Daniel of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Jenny Cheyeann Youtsey of Jennings, Oklahoma; her mother Naomi Lea Youtsey and her husband Lloyd of Jennings, Oklahoma, step brother David Youtsey of Oilton, Oklahoma; step sister Tamra Colpitt and her husband Hall of Mannford, Oklahoma as well as numerous other relatives and friends that will mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her father John H. Smith and a daughter Debra Jean Daniel. Chapel Services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, April 18, 2009 in the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Garry McDevitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Osage Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com. Pallbearers include Oscar McCarty, J.L. McCarty, Melvin Tilley, Kenneth Smith, Allen Smith, Carl Smith and honorary pallbearer will be Don Pickle.
