Velma Jeanie Devin

Velma Jean Jeanie Devin was born March 14, 1931 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at the Tulsa Regional Medical Center at the age of seventy-two years, nine months and nine days.

Jeanie moved with her family from Marshall, Arkansas to Cleveland on March 1, 1941, at the age of ten years. She attended Cleveland schools from the fifth grade. On December 31, 1947, she was married to Charles Devin of Cleveland. The couple had two daughters, Sherry Lynn and Teresa Diane. Jeanie worked as a waitress at Katies CafÈ for several years, at Wells Grocery and as a packer at Kerr Glass.

Her husband Charles was an auto mechanic for years in Cleveland. The couple sub-leased the Kerr McGee station from Paul Day in 1968. Several years later they purchased the Gibble Gas Station on west Caddo from David Guinn. She also helped her husband at the service stations they owned and operated. For several years, Jeanie owned and operated a ceramic shop on West Caddo, selling greenware and supplies, as well as offering a kilm firing service.

Jeanie's parents and her husband preceded her in death in addition to a son-in-law, Michael LeGrand. She is survived by Sherry and Gerald Hewitt of Cleveland and Diane and Tom Benton of Ketchum, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Matt and his wife, Sharmen LeGrand of Jay and Jamie LeGrand of Grove; five great grandchildren, Jevin LeGrand, Jennifer Barromen and Courtney Diane LeGrand, all of Jay; Alley Nichole and Emma LeGrand of Grove.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Edens officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
