Una Jean Carter, 87, formerly of Yale, Oklahoma passed from this life on July 16, 2021, in Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Una Jean was born on November 4, 1933, in Wewoka, Oklahoma; the daughter of Emmitt Loy and Helen Violet (Goshorn) Smith. Una Jean grew up and attended school in Capitol Hill in Oklahoma City. Una Jean was married to Kenneth Carter on June 21, 1949, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and to that union there are four sons Mike, Randy, Scott and Joe. Una Jean and Kenneth resided in Oklahoma City later moving to Nicoma Park. In 1971, Una Jean and Kenneth moved to Yale, Oklahoma. From 1981 to 1985, Una Jean attended Oklahoma State University graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts.

Una Jean was a wonderful artist doing oil painting, sculpture and drawings. She taught local art classes as well as privately out of her home studio. Una Jean recently hosted multiple local acrylic pour parties for family, friends and students. Una Jean also has a piece of artwork at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. Una Jean exhibited her artwork at shows throughout the state. Una Jean and Kenneth spent many hours providing ministry to nursing homes and opened their home to anyone. Una Jean was a wonderful cook and enjoyed family gatherings. One of her favorite things was sitting on the back porch with Kenneth listening to the wildlife and reading the Bible and praying together.

Survivors are Mike Carter and his wife Rose of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Randy Carter and his wife Kay of Hominy, Oklahoma, Scott Carter and his wife Karen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Joe Carter and his wife Heather of Denver, Colorado; one brother Jackie Loy Smith and his wife Roberta of Edmond, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Richard Wierzba of Grove, Oklahoma; fifteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Una Jean was preceded in death by her father Loy Smith, mother Helen Kinard, husband Kenneth Carter, two sisters Dorothy Williams, Juanita Wierzba and one great granddaughter Anaya Carter.

Pallbearers will include Chris Carter, Jeremy Carter, Chevy Carter, Caleb Carter, Ethan Carter and Joey Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be James Carter, Zachary Carter and Benjamin Carter.

Services will be held 10:30 am, Friday, July 23, 2021, at the Crossroads Community Church on Highway 51 and 99 with Pastor Mike Clark officiating services. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 22nd from 10:00 am till 7:00 pm at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland. Burial will be held in the Lawson Cemetery at Yale, Oklahoma.
