Juanita Trypena Mae (Rigsby) Leverett was born on January 18, 1921, the daughter of Grover and Mathilda (Peterman) Rigsby. She was born on the family farm in Keystone, Oklahoma. She received her education at the Rigsby School, which was built by her father and uncle. She completed her education to the 8th grade at the one room school house and at age 16, went to work for the local Cotton Mill. (She never forgot what she learned there and always insisted we buy the best quality cotton sheets.)
She married Raymond Rex Leverett on September 24, 1939. They made their home on Charles Page Boulevard in Sand Springs. She was baptized at the Limestone Baptist Church in 1965. They had two children, Glenn and Eunice. Rex and Tryphena enjoyed their time at Lake Keystone and camping at Fort Gibson. Many summers were spent with friends and family and later their grandchildren, Bryan and Shelley, on a boat at the lake. Sandy Point will always be in the memories of those that spent endless summers with the couple by the campfire.
When not at the lake, Tryphena enjoyed watching her grandchildren. She was the original Coupon Queen and was quick to teach her grandkids the value of a dollar and how to get the best deal. She loved to play games like Yahtzee and 10,000. But most of all, she enjoyed visiting and laughing with friends and family. She knew everyone by name, as well as their birthday, spouse, children and family history. She enjoyed spending time at Westport Senior Citizens Center playing games with her friends. She never forgot a face and no one ever forgot her infectious smile and hearty laugh.
As her great grandchildren were born, James and Avery, Tryphena enjoyed the visits with them and watching them play. She was always excited to show anyone who stopped at her house family pictures that filled the walls. Education was always important to Tryphena and she pushed her grandkids and great grandkids to do their best. She always asked how the report cards looked and beamed with pride as the kids answered.
But most of all, Tryphena was a good friend to anyone who needed her. She was a trusted confidant to her family, especially to her grandson Bryan. She was always willing to lend an ear and a word of advice. No matter the problem, she would listen and give you an answer from her years of experience. And always end the conversation with “I sure do love ya.”
Tryphena went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 8, 2016 at the age of 95. She now rejoices in Heaven with her parents, three brothers, Grover Rigsby, Lester Rigsby and Albert Rigsby, two sisters, Emma Fletcher and Dorothy Findley, her son Glenn Leverett and husband Rex Leverett.
She leaves behind her daughter Euince Hillsberry and husband Robert Hillsberry of Sand Springs, Daughter in Law Evelyn Leverett of Keystone, grandson Bryan Hillsberry and wife Michelle of Cleveland, granddaughter Shelley Berry and husband James of Hanna, 4 great grandchildren, James Berry III, Avery Berry, Cordell Hulbert and Tanner Hulbert. She also leaves behind a host of friends and family and others that her life has touched over the past 95 years.
