Troy Eugene Ross

Funeral services for Troy Eugene Ross, will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Western Heights Baptist Church with Rev. David  Head officiating.  Burial will follow the services in the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.                                                                                    Gene was born July 5, 1928, in Cleveland, Oklahoma.  He was the son of Isaac Edward and Bessie Jane (Morris) Ross.  As a young man Gene grew up in Cleveland where he attended school.  During his time in high school Gene was given the nickname "Scrooge" due to his participation in the school play A Christmas Carol.  Gene joined the U.S. Navy at a young age and served until November 18, 1947 when he was honorably discharged.  Upon his discharge Gene returned to complete his high school education and graduated from Cleveland High School.  Following high school Gene gained employment at the Johnson Refinery in Cleveland.  He was later united in marriage on September 11, 1951, in Bentonville Arkansas to Mary Juanita Shipman.  The two established their home in Cleveland where they raised their three children Donald, Diann and Rhonda.  Gene later retired from Kerr McGee Refinery in Cleveland and purchased the car wash on Caddo.  Soon after that Gene opened up Gene Ross Package Store which he and Juanita operated for many years.  Gene later built another car wash in North Broadway in the 1980's.  In 1995, Gene sold the Package Store to his daughter Diann.  During that time he also sold the car wash facilities which he maintained for many years.  On June 14, 1997, Gene was united in marriage to Clara Jeane (Carter) Tisher. Gene loved to travel.  He has taken many trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Branson and Mississippi for exteneded amounts of time.  During the summer times he would take yearly camping trips with the kids and grandkids to Missouri.  Gene was a giver, he was always willing to help out his friends and family with anything that was needed.  Gene was a current member of the Western Heights Baptist Church. Gene passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at his home at the age of 86 years, eleven months and twenty days.  Survivors are his Jeane of the home, children Diann Monforte and her husband Terry of Cleveland, LaVerne Smith and her husband Harvey of Clevleand, Oklahoma, Teresa Lay and her husband Preston of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Sheila Huff and her husband Alan of Cleveland, Oklahoma; three grandchildren Stacie Monforte, Jesse Cavin, Travis Cavin; three great grandchildren Liam, Evan and Jade; numerous step grandchildren, great grandchildren; great great grandchildren and numerous friends and relatives.  He was preceded in death by his father Isaac Ross, mother Bessie Ross, wife Juanita (Shipman) Ross in of March 1996; four brothers Walter, Denzil, Bill and Joseph; two sisters Margaret and Christabell; son Donald Ray Ross; daughter Rhonda Ross-Cavin and a grandson Terry Wayne Monforte.
