Thurlene Louise Langley, of Cleveland, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 65 years. Thurlene was born March 26, 1944, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Vaughan Justice and Wilma Lucille (Gorman) Norman. As a young girl Thurlene began her education at Horace Mann Elementary in Tulsa and later graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1961. After graduation Thurlene accepted a position with Kerr Glass in the shipping department. She continued working there until she gained employment as the manager of Louisiana Bay Restaurant in Tulsa. Thurlene later operated Buster Burgers in Prue, Oklahoma from 1981 until 1984. On September 14, 1990, Thurlene was united in marriage to Elton Langley. The couple established their home in Cleveland where they have continued to reside. After working in the food industry for many years, Thurlene and Elton decided to open their own facility in Cleveland named the Der Zucker Baker and the couple operated the facility for several years before selling the equipment. Thurlene then began working at Cactus JackÃs in Cleveland before returning to work for the City of Sand Springs in the payroll department. Thurlene enjoyed being outdoors. She and Elton took many trips on their motorcycle. Some trips were short local trips; but her favorite place to spend time was at the Queen Wilamena Lodge in Mena, Arkansas. She especially enjoyed fishing; a good way of spending countless hours with her family and friends. Thurlene also enjoyed taking people to garage sales and antique stores shopping without making a single purchase. She was also and active member of the St. Bedes Episcopal Church. She was the first lady licensed lay reader as well as Senior Warden of the church. One thing that Thurlene made sure of was that your birthday was a very special time that you would always remember. Survivors include her husband Elton Langley of the home, five children Julie Donelson and her husband Ben of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lorne Langley of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Wendy Jarrett of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Bryan Langley of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Teresa Fox and her husband Bobby of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two sisters Barbara Jones of Bixby, Oklahoma, Shirley Buchanan of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren Ashley, Austin, Amy, Christopher, Skylar, Gage, Maddison, Robert and Tiffany as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents Thurlene was preceded in death by her two brothers Bill Norman, David Norman; two sisters Anna Weigle and Dorothy Sexton. Memorial services will be held in the Sanctuary of the St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Sand Springs, Oklahoma at 10:00 am, on Monday, December 28, 2009 with The Reverend Canon John C. Powers officiating. Scattering of the cremated remains will be in the St. Bedes Episcopal Church Scattering Garden in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Family has requested that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made in memory of Thurlene to the St. Bedes Episcopal Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma or a charity of your choice. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
