Thomas Franklin Keegan was born January 10, 1936 to James L. and Frances Pruitt Keegan in Lawton Oklahoma. He departed this life on April 5th, 2006 at his home in Cleveland at the age of seventy years.
Tom, as he was known by his family and friends, graduated from Lawton High School in 1954 and entered into the service of his country in the United States Army. He served in the in the 11th airborne division, making several paratroop jumps. He was honorably discharged from the armed services in 1957.
Tom graduated from Cameron College in Lawton and attended Panhandle A&M College in the 1960Ãs. He worked for the Lawton Fire Department during the 1960Ãs as an ambulance driver and firefighter.
Tom married his wife, Jan, in Crowell, Texas on July 14, 1970 and to this union was born one son, Robert Patrick. After their marriage Tom moved with Jan to Tulsa in 1970 and to Cleveland, Oklahoma in 1971. He was employed as an operating engineer during the 1970Ãs and early 1980Ãs; working at the Cleveland Area Hospital and the Dick Connors Correctional Center in Hominy. In the 1980Ãs, Tom purchased several rental properties in Cleveland and was actively involved in their maintenance and management at the time of his death.
Tom attended the Presbyterian Church as a child and was confirmed and baptized in the First Presbyterian Church in Lawton. He joined the First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland in 1976. In 1992, Tom and Jan went on a medical mission trip to Mexico. He was a loving husband and father who was kind hearted and generous to his family and friends. Tom enjoyed fishing and loved to spend time outdoors. He was an avid gardener who loved to grow tomatoes.
Tom is survived by his wife, Jan of the home in Cleveland, his son Pat, his stepmother, Ethel Keegan of Lawton, his sisters and their husbands, Karen and Carroll Rogers of Lawton, and Judy and Tom Wolf of Oklahoma City, an uncle, Robert Keegan of Fayetteville, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and maternal and paternal grandparents
A graveside service will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 8, 2006 with Rev. Romney Nesbitt officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the charity of choice. Cremations services were under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
