Thelma Milam

Thelma Veota Milam passed away quietly on Monday, January 3, 2005 at the Twelve Oaks East Retirement Village in Dallas, Texas at the age of eighty six years.

Thelma was a longtime resident of Cleveland, Oklahoma before moving to Dallas in 2003. She was born on January 9, 1918 in Kinsett, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Charles Clayton and Elva Lexa Johnson. She moved with her family at an early age to Cleveland where she graduated from Cleveland High School in 1937.

Thelma was married to Walter C. Milam, Jr on May 11, 1940 in Cleveland , Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Cleveland and then moved away. Following her husband's death on July 5, 1959, Thelma returned to Cleveland and established her home here with her son, Stephen. During the next several years, Thelma worked as a dental technician for Dr. Bob Bruno and Dr. Terry Bennet. Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cleveland.

In addition of her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Steve in 1992; two brothers, Cody and Ted Johnson; and a sister, Juanita Spain.

Thelma is survived by three brothers and their spouses, J. T. and Roberta Johnson, Irving, Texas, Leroy and Dorothy Johnson, Dallas, Texas, and Ralph and Beverly Johnson, Decatur, Texas; many nieces, nephews and friends. A special thank you to Christina Cooper for the special care she gave Thelma this last year of her life.

The family will receive friends at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Thursday, January 6, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 7, 2005 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
