Thelma Marie Witt, a resident of Duncan was born January 27, 1926 in Cedar Creek, Missouri to John and Edna Pearl (Ricketts) Smith. The family moved to the Cleveland Area when Marie was a young child. She attended school in the Dixie Area as well as Terlton where she graduated from high school in 1945. On April 9, 1947 Marie was united in marriage to Lex Howard Witt in Sedan, Kansas. Marie and Lex made their home in Russell, Kansas after their marriage. They soon moved to Lovington, New Mexico until 1971. In 1971 Marie and Lex made their home in Duncan, Oklahoma where she has lived since.
Some of MarieÃs hobbies include working in her garden, fishing as well as canning and cooking. Marie loved to spend time in Ruidoso, New Mexico on vacations. Marie will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
She passed away October 18, 2004 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 78 years 8 months and 21 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Almus, Melvin, Gordon and Charles Smith, one sister Alma Martin and a son Ronnie Paul Witt.
Survived by her husband of over 57 years Lex Witt, of the home; son Eddie Witt of Golden, Colorado; grandchildren, Carrie Lane Gould of Arvada, Colorado; Ryan Edward Witt of Golden, Colorado; Hayley Horton Witt of Lakewood, Colorado; great grandchildren Cadence Witt of Lakewood, Colorado; Aurora Witt of Golden, Colorado as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Friday, October 22, 2004 at 11:00 am in the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel with services officiated by Rev. David Head. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
