Ted Lavern Fast, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at his home near Prue, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years old.
Ted was born on July 1, 1934, in the Wildhorse area of Osage County. He was the son of Julius and Balzora May (Kezer) Fast. As a young man Ted was raised and received his education in the Prue and the Wildhorse areas. Following the completion of his education Ted joined the United State Air Force. Ted was initially stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. Ted was later transferred to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona. During the time Ted was stationed in Arizona he was united in marriage to Winnie “Kittie” Newburn in Winterhaven, California on October 28, 1959. Ted remained at Davis-Monthan until the late 1960’s. At that time, he was transferred to Da Nang Air Force Base in Vietnam. He remained in Da Nang until he retired in September of 1971. Technical Sergeant Ted L. Fast was an air cargo specialist and cargo handler during the time serving his country. While he was serving his country Ted was awarded numerous medals, commendations and citations. They are as follows: Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Korean Winter Bronze Service Star, Korean Summer Fall Bronze Service Star, Air Force Longevity Service Award with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Award, Vietnam Medal with four Bronze Star and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Following his retirement from the United States Air Force; Tech Sergeant Ted Fast returned home to Prue, Oklahoma in 1971.
Ted soon gained employment at Sheffield Steel Corporation in Sand Springs. Ted worked at Sheffield for over 20 years when he retired in 1991. Following his retirement Ted was able to do what he loved most. Growing gardens, fishing and working on things for his friends and family. Ted was an animal lover and had a big heart especially for dogs. Following the death of his wife Kitty; Ted was later united in marriage to Linda Lou Duggan in Miami, Oklahoma on July 12, 2005. The couple moved to their current home in 2009.
Ted was a longtime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and devoted to his church family. He has been a member for over 40 plus years. Ted respected and mentioned several times that Elder Mike Southward and Bishop John Roy Drummond had a major impact on his life.
Survivors are his wife Linda of the home, son Joel Newburn of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; brother Sonny Fast of Prue, Oklahoma; brother Bob Tyner of Prue Oklahoma; sister Judy Franklin of Jones, Oklahoma; Jackie Jordan of Prue, Oklahoma; numerous grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents; Ted was preceded in death by his wife Winnie “Kittie” Fast; brother Bud Fast; three sisters Zora Tyner, Barbara June Wright and Margie Goodman.
Services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, August 6, 2016, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Mike Southward officiating. Burial will follow in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma with military rites performed by the VFW Fifth District Rifle Team. Friends may share a memory online at with the family at www.chapman-black.com.
