Talmadge Greenwood

Tallie was born on March 12, 1916 in Mannford, Oklahoma. He was the son of Bert Greenwood and Clara (Nance) Greenwood. As a young man Tallie was raised in the Old Mannford area where he attended school and later graduated high school. On March 31, 1941, in Jennings, Oklahoma, Tallie was united in marriage to Melba Jean Mitchell. In the late 1940ís, Tallie began working for his brother-in-law in Parsons, Kansas in the oil field. In 1951, Tallie began working for his father-in-law Carl Mitchell with Payne County Drilling Company as a tool Pusher. He later gained employment with Johnson Refinery in Cleveland for a short time, before joining the Plumbers and Pipe Fitter Local 430. Tallie worked as a pipefitter until he fully retired in 1981, but continued his membership and was currently a 48 year member of the union. Tallie enjoyed being outside. Following the time Tallie retired he loved to spend time each day at Red Dots with his friend, Doug Reed. When Red Dots closed he then had coffee daily at Walmart and then finally at McDonaldís. Tallie was still going to McDonaldís up until the time he went into the hospital. As a young man Tallie enjoyed going to Cainís Ballroom in Tulsa to see his favorite band Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Summer family vacations were symbolic of time being spent at Grand Lake in the cabin. His favorite thing to do at home would be lie on the couch and watch TV. However, when it was time for the senior dances at Mannford he would up and leave; many times while Cheryl and Mike were still mowing his yard. Tallie was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Clara Greenwood; wife Melba Jean Greenwood, son Bradley Gene Greenwood; brothers Clayton Greenwood and Bobby Greenwood, and a sister Dorothy Haslam. Tallie is survived by his son, Larry Greenwood and wife Mona, daughters Lynn Bennett and husband Richard and Cheryl Allen and husband Mike; brother Billy Greenwood and wife Beth Ann; grandchildren Sandra Van Pelt and husband John, Ricky Bennett and wife Tausha, Michael Ryan Allen, Cody Greenwood and wife Mandy, Jon Allen and wife Adrienne, and Amy Greenwood; great grandchildren Tia Bennett, Preslie Van Pelt, Ashley Bennett, and Brooklyn Van Pelt; and many other relatives and friends.
