Sybil Lou Blake

Sybil Lou Blake passed from this life on June 20, 2022, at the age of 96 in Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Sybil was born on August 10, 1925, in Pawhuska, Okla., the daughter of Milford G. and Thelma C. (Dixon) Chandler. Sybil grew up and attended school in Pawhuska graduating with the Class of 1943. She later attended Bartlesville Business College before gaining a position with Spartan Aircraft during World War II.

On April 27, 1947, Sybil was united in marriage to Marion Francis Blake in Pawhuska. Sybil began working at the Osage Agency following their marriage and in 1948 she began working at Phillips Petroleum. In 1951, Sybil and Frank moved to Tulsa, where they resided until 1957. On September 10, 1957, Sybil and Frank opened the Dari-Diner in Cleveland, which became very popular with teens and families, alike. They operated the business side-by-side for many years until Frank's death. Sybil continued to operate the Diner until son David took over the business in 1993.

Sybil enjoyed being actively involved in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Cleveland, and in her beloved community. She loved involving herself with organizations that gave back to the community, such as the Philomathic Study Club, the Cleveland Area Hospital Auxiliary, and CASA. When she volunteered to deliver meals for Cleveland Portable Meals it's understood she would occasionally stop by the Dari Diner to swap out what was in the to-go containers before making the drop-offs - just because. She was actively involved, both on and off stage, in the Cleveland Community Theatre and worked at local election polls for years. She loved anything connected to her dear church and led out in many ways, such as taking charge of the chicken and noodle luncheons for the public which required her teaching others how to make those homemade noodles. She also volunteered to teach adult reading at the church. Refusing to sit around during retirement, she accepted a position with the Pawnee County Economic Development Foundation as its secretary and assisted that organization well into her 90's.
Sybil enjoyed being around people and treasured her time with special friends.

Survivors are three children: David Blake and his wife Linda of Cleveland, Okla., Debbie Baldwin of Kingfisher, Okla., Donna Rainbolt of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Sybil was preceded in death by her parents Milford and Thelma Chandler and her husband Frank.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 30 at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church in Cleveland. A reception will follow at First Presbyterian Church. A private family burial will follow. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland.
