Susie Irene Willcox, longtime Hominy resident passed away, Monday, March 15, 2004 at the Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa at the age of eighty-four years, eleven months and twenty-one days.
Irene was born on March 24, 1919 in Grannis, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Floyd and Sarah Carter. She moved to Ralston with her family at an early age and then on to Mounds Valley, where she was raised and attended school. Irene graduated from Mounds Valley High School in 1937.
Upon graduation from high school, Irene moved to California during World War Ii where she worked as Rosie the riveter in an aircraft assembly plant. After the completion of the war, Irene returned to Oklahoma and was married to Pat Hagin Willcox. After their marriage, the couple made their initial home in Wichita for a couple of years and then moved to Hominy, Oklahoma where they raised their two sons, James and C. Frank. While residing in Hominy, Irene worked for many years as an inspector at the Musingwear Plant, retiring in 1984. Irene's hobbies included cooking and crocheting. Additionally, she loved to work in her yard and flower garden.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, J. W., Alfred, Milford, Levi and an infant brother; and three sisters, Crystal Reed, Altha Brailsford and Rosie Pruitt.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, James and Linda Willcox of Hominy, Oklahoma and C. Frank and Linda Willcox of Ralston, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Jamessa Terrell of Osage, Oklahoma, Kim and Jerry Darrow of Osage, Oklahoma, James Willcox of Hominy, Oklahoma, Jeff and Gayle Willcox of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Angela and John Caughlin of Blackburn, Oklahoma, thirteen great-grandchildren, Amanda Gray of Osage, Oklahoma, Matt Terrell of Osage, Oklahoma, Jake Terrell of Osage, Oklahoma, Bradley Sanders of Osage, Oklahoma, Heath Willcox of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Ashley Willcox of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Aaron Caughlin of Blackburn, Oklahoma, Aricka Caughlin of Blackburn, Oklahoma, Shane Colclazier of Blackburn, Oklahoma, Blake Colclazier of Blackburn, Oklahoma, K. C. Darrow of Osage, Oklahoma, Destiny Darrow of Osage, Oklahoma, Katie Jo Willcox of Osage, Oklahoma; two great great-grandchildren., Bryce Gray of Osage, Oklahoma and Callie Gray of Osage, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Walter Pruitt of Jones, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Daisy Carter of Casper, Wyoming and a sister-in-law, Yoshiko Carter of Bossier City, Louisiana.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, March 19, 2004 at the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Hominy, Oklahoma with Coy Everett officiating. Burial will be at the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland.
