Shirley June Nimerick Hager was born June 9, 1943 in Yale, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Bill and Elma (Sneed) Nimerick. Shirley grew up on a farm in Pawnee County and attended Star-A-Star grade school. She later attended Pawnee Schools, graduating from Pawnee High School in 1961. Upon graduation from high school, Shirley attended Northern Oklahoma A&M in Tonkawa where she obtained an associates degree in Business. Shortly after completing her college classes, Shirley accepted employment at the Pawnee County Court House working for the County Superintendent. On September 30, 1964, Shirley was married to Lester "Tate" Hager in Miami, Oklahoma; to this union were born three children, Justin, Jason and Hollie. During the early years of their marriage, Shirley maintained the family home and raised her three children. When Hollie began school, Shirley began working for the Cleveland Public School System, where she was employed for nearly eighteen years. She then began a career with the State of Oklahoma, working at Walnut State Park near Prue, Bristow for a while, later as a medical records assistant at the Dick Connors Correctional Center in Hominy, retiring in 2006. Shirley also worked part time as a clerk for the Cleveland Area Hospital for many years. She loved watching her kids play in their various sporting events. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, fishing in her paddle boat at the farm, cookouts, gardening, watching J. R. wrestle, spending time with family, especially her grandkids, playing cards and scrabble with her kids and taking her kids to her childhood farm in Pawnee for the day. In 2001, she enjoyed the best vacation of her life; going to the Calgary Stampede with her husband and son, Jason. Shirley started her battle with cancer at the age of fifty and spent the last three years in the nursing home, but never complained about her circumstances. Anytime she was asked how she was, her response was always, "Just fine." Shirley passed from this life and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of sixty-seven. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Elma Nimerick and two nephews, Brett and Brian Nimerick. She is survived by are her husband, Lester Hager of the home; a son and his wife, Justin and Lisa Hager of Cleveland, Oklahoma; a son and his wife, Jason and Rhonda Hager of Owasso, Oklahoma; a daughter and her husband, Hollie and Jeff Synder of Cleveland, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Leslie Caldwell; four grandsons, J. R. Hager, Matt Hager, Will Snyder and Zach Snyder; one great granddaughter, Jayci Kaye Cladwell; step-daughter, Pam Hager; step-granddaughter, Ashley Blum; two step-grandsons, Brandon Compton and Michael Crandell; three brothers and thier wives, Elton and Bonnie Nimerick of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Ken and Pat Nimerick of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jim and Donna Nimerick of Tulsa, Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews and other friends and relatives that mourn her passing. Shirley was a forty-six year member of the Cleveland Church of Christ where she served in the capacity of Church secretary for many years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the Church of Christ in Cleveland with Doug Dingley officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ, 209 West Delaware, Cleveland, Oklahoma in memory of Shirley Hager.
