Shirley Jean Bateman passed from this life on October 21, 2021, at the age of 86.
Shirley was born on July 29, 1935, in Ralston, Oklahoma; the daughter of Don and Lucille (Tramel) Teter. Shirley grew up and attended school in Ralston/Fairfax area later moving with her family to Cushing. Shirley started her freshman year in Cleveland graduating with the Class of 1953. Following high school Shirley was united in marriage to Cotton Bateman in Cushing, Oklahoma. Following their marriage the couple established their home in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Following the death of Cotton in 1969, Shirley moved to Owasso, Oklahoma. Shirley worked as a medical secretary for many years for Drs. Hickman and Nulf in Tulsa. In 1976, Shirley moved to Tulsa and in 1981, she met Ledgel Taylor making their home together for over 33 years. In 2001, Shirley retired from Dr. Nulf's office.
Shirley always enjoyed going to the Dillard's sales searching for that good sale. She was an avid bowler and loved going dancing. Shirley was a huge Dallas Cowboy, OKC Thunder and OU fan. She has been a longtime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Shoes, jewelry and fashion were always important to Shirley.
Survivors are her two children Dan Bateman of Valley Mills, Texas, Teresa Bateman of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; two siblings Judy Brown of Greenwood, Arkansas, Debi Weatherly of Decatur, Texas; three grandchildren Katelyn, Candice and Tess Bateman and a great grandson Seamus. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Don and Lucille Teter, two husbands Cotton Bateman, Ledgel Taylor, daughter Tammy Bateman, six siblings Linda Wolf, JoAnn Walls, Bill Teter, Amos Teter, Bud Teter and Donna Edgerton
Services will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, October 25, 2021, at the First Baptist Church with Wade Wolf officiating services. Burial will be held at a later date in the Okmulgee Cemetery.
