Shirley Jean Balentine, 74, of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed from this life on August 28, 2022.
Shirley was born on June 6, 1948, in Hominy, Oklahoma, the daughter of Kenneth Ray and Nora Geneive (Carter) Young. Shirley grew up and attended school in Cleveland, graduating with the Class of 1966. On December 16, 1966, Shirley married Jerry Ronald Balentine in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Hominy, where they raised three children, Ronnie, LaDonna, and Jerry Dean. Shirley began working at the Corner Drug in Hominy in 1974 at the fountain and later became manager of the gift shop and pharmacy tech. In 1994 she began working as a legal secretary for Lawrence Martin Law Office following the drug store burning down. Shirley worked at the law firm for over 27 years when she retired in January 2021.
Shirley enjoyed taking Annabelle outside while working in her yard, planting flowers, picking up around the yard, and cooking for her family while listening to the Sunday Morning Gospel. Going Christmas shopping with JoReeda was always a memorable time. Going to the Hickory House getting a cheeseburger, tater tots, and a Pepsi was a weekly event. Going walking and being involved with the grandkids were always special times.
Survivors are two children LaDonna Balentine of Hominy, Oklahoma, Jerry Dean Balentine and his wife Sandy of Hominy, Oklahoma, PaDean of Cleveland, Oklahoma, two brothers Wayne Young and Terry Estes of Cleveland, Oklahoma; three sisters Tamra, Delores, and Deanna; daughter-in-law Bonnie Balentine of Hominy, Oklahoma, sister in law Lynda Houchin of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren Brye Branum of Hominy, Oklahoma, Jamie and Dustin Valois of Mounds, Oklahoma, seven great grandkids Myah, Cade, Dusti, Logan, Lejand, Eli and Knoxville as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Nora Estes, Kenneth Young, husband Jerry Balentine, son Ronnie Balentine, and grandson Sergeant Rj VanZant.
Services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, September 2, 2022, at the First Assembly of God Church, with Kevin Foote officiating. Burial will be held in the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
