Sharon Kay Henderson

Sharon K. Henderson was born July 2, 1946 in Hominy, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of Donald Eugene and WillaDean (Garrett) Brumley. Sharon was raised and attended school in Cleveland, graduating from Cleveland High School in 1964.

Upon graduation, Sharon attended Northeastern State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education. Shortly after graduation from college, Sharon was married to John Redman. The couple made their initial home in Muskogee while Sharon was employed by the Muskogee School for the Blind as a speech pathologist. In 1969, the couple moved to Martinsville, Illinois where both their children, Jennifer and Josh were born. While making their home in Illinois, Sharon worked as a speech pathologist for the Martinsville School system for nearly fifteen years. Following the couple's divorce in 1984, Sharon returned to Cleveland where she was immediately employed as a speech pathologist in the Cleveland Public School System.

During her tenure with the Cleveland School System, Sharon worked in every school including Terlton; touching the lives of many children with communication disorders. She was always there to help her special students in anyway possible.
Sharon was married to Bob Henderson on May 21, 1988 in Cleveland. They have made their home here in Cleveland and Sharon continued to teach until her retirement this past years after twenty years of service in Cleveland Schools.

Sharon was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Sunday School and especially enjoyed Sunday school parties. She was active in the church choir and often was called upon to play the organ. She was actively involved in the Cleveland Community Theatre for many years, playing many parts in numerous productions. Additionally, Sharon was a member of Preceptor Beta Mu Sorority and was extensively involved in the community choir and Freedom Celebration for many years. Her hobbies included crafting, making special things for special occasions for her family; fishing, cooking, and scrap booking. Her favorite pastime, however, was spending time with her family.

Sharon passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at her home in Cleveland at the age of fifty-nine years and fourteen days. She was preceded in death by her father, Don Brumley on March 19, 1993.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Bob of the home; two children, Jennifer Blankenship of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Josh and his wife, Mary Redman of Martinsville, Illinois; her mother, WillaDean Brumley of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two sisters, Deanna Lemmons of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Donna Jo Trimble, Sand Springs, Oklahoma; three step-children, Taina Evans of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brian Henderson of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Wendy Slemp of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Conner Redman, Savannah Blankenship, Brian Carr, Deedee Carr, Bret Evans and Danielle Evans, and a great-granddaughter, Kourtney Barnes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Cleveland with Dr. Larry Wilson and Rev. George Boston officiating. Musical selections will be provided by Dorothea Hendricks and serving as pallbearers will be Fred Vaughan, Ron Wells, Keith Potter, Dennis Maupin, Brian Hilbert, and Dale Norrid. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
