Sandra Bohannon

Sandra Jo Bohannon, known to her friends and family as Sandy, passed from this life on November 7, 2024, at the age of 75, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Sandy was born in Belleville, Illinois on December 28, 1948. She was the daughter of Russell and Irene (Pate) Arnold. Due to her father's military career, Sandy grew up and attended school in numerous locations. Following her education, Sandy was united in marriage to Mitchell “Micky” Bohannon on July 10, 1965 in Memphis, Tennessee. Their union was blessed with three children: Donna, Deanna, and Chris. Sandy and Micky established their home in Southaven, Mississippi until the early 1980s. While residing in Mississippi, Sandy and Micky owned and operated a 50+ acre truck farm with their main crop being over 30 acres of pick-your-own strawberries. Upon moving to Jennings, Oklahoma, Micky trained animals and the family even enjoyed a brief stay in the infamous Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, where they participated by performing various acts in the show. One of the highlights of Sandy’s life during this time was visiting New York City, where they performed in Madison Square Garden. She also enjoyed Broadway plays and riding the subway while there. After returning to Jennings in the late 1980s, Micky continued to train animals while Sandy, along with her best friend Jackie, owned and operated the convenience store, L&L Stop and Go, in Jennings until selling the operation in 2006.

Sandy enjoyed reading her Bible, gardening, and oil painting. She always enjoyed a good old- fashioned hamburger or fried chicken, especially fried chicken from KFC. Her family and friends will deeply feel the absence of her engaging discussions about the Bible, updates on current events, and her general knowledge and advice on plants, animals, and really any topic they would seek her wisdom. Sandy was fun, feisty, strong-willed, and fascinating, but most of all she loved God, her family, and her friends fiercely.

Sandy is survived by her three children; Donna Fox (the late Bob) of Dewey, Oklahoma, Deanna Norton (Nate) of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Chris Bohannon of Jennings, Oklahoma, and honorary son Jeramiah Meschkat of Vero Beach, Florida; siblings Micky Vaughn of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Michael Arnold of Southaven, Mississippi; five grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her husband Micky, who passed away in 2012; two siblings, Sue Moonen and Debra Garza, as well as son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Fox.

The family will receive friends at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home, located at 108 West Delaware Street in Cleveland, Oklahoma 74020, on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 5-7pm. Graveside services will be held at 2pm on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the Maramec IOOF Cemetery with Brother Lonnie Duckett officiating.
