Ruth Maxine Smith

Ruth Maxine Smith was born to William Joseph and Pearl Edith (Booth) Comer on February 28, 1926, near Cleveland, Oklahoma. She passed away September 26, 2018, to be with her Lord and Savior. A member of First Baptist Church since 1949, as well as a member in Cushing, Oklahoma.

When Ruth was about two, her father purchased a farm down in the Dixie Community and moved the family there. Ruth went to the Dixie school through 8th grade, then Cleveland in High School, graduating in 1943.

William B. Smith wed Ruth on September 4, 1943, at the Methodist Church Parsonage with Reverend Littleton Fowler officiating, with the only close family present. They moved to Ponca City, then back to Cleveland where Bill worked for Johnson Oil Refinery. They moved to Cushing in 1956, when Bill began working for Kerr-McGee.

Ruth was a homemaker, enjoying many hobbies. She loved to cook, sew, crochet, gardening and tending to the plants. Along with traveling, Ruth remained active in her church. After Bill started the Smith Mobile Home Park, Ruth managed it for 16 years, when they sold it and moved into town.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, her parents, four brothers William, Edward, Jack, and Richard Comer, four sisters Lula Wilcoxson, Bessie Smith, Bonita Brown, Lillie Ingalls, and her sons William B. Smith III, Jerry Lynn Smith, daughter Bonita Langley

Ruth is survived by her son, Darrell Smith and his wife Gayla of Cleveland, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; Lorne Langley, Bryan Langley, Sally Currington, Ashleigh Taber, Elizabeth Freuen, Amber Aguliar, Laura Caldwell, Kaylyn Boling, and Joe Smith; twenty one great-grandchildren; two great-great grandsons and a host of other family members and friends.
