Memorial services for Russell Wayne Perry will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, August 23, 2008 in the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Head officiating. Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com.
Russell was born March 19, 1940 in Eunice, New Mexico the son of Lee Haskell and Ruth Ester (Rains) Perry. As a young man Russell grew up in Hobbs, New Mexico where he began his education. At the age of 14, Russell moved with his parents to a farm southwest of Hallett, Oklahoma. Russell attended school in Maramec for three years then later transferring to Jennings where he graduated with the Class of 1957. Soon after high school Russell entered into the service of his country as a part of the United States Navy on May 23, 1958. After the completion of his basic training Mr. Perry was stationed at the Agana Naval Air Station in Guam. Russell was later transferred to Treasure Island in San Francisco, California where he was honorably discharged on May 7, 1962.
After his discharge Russell returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he enrolled at Tulsa Electrician College. At the completion of his training Russell earned his Journeyman's License with the State of Oklahoma. After graduation he accepted employment with C.E. NATCO in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. While working there he performed fabrication and electrical assembly on oil and gas production equipment. On June 16, 1967, Russell was united in marriage to Mary Louise (Jones). The couple made their initial home in the Tulsa area. In 1972, Mr. Perry started working for Malone Crawford, Inc in the warehouse. While working Russell had a thirst for knowledge and enrolled at Oklahoma School of Business and Accountancy in Tulsa. He earned the following degrees: Bachelor of Science in Commercial Science, Associate in Accounting as well as an Associate in Business Administration. Upon the completion of his education he was promoted to Estimator. His responsibilities included estimating labor hours and preparing quotes for oil and gas production equipment for onshore, offshore and foreign applications. At his retirement from the company in May of 1994, Mr. Perry was the Chief Estimator. At his retirement Russell began working as a consultant for Unipro due to his knowledge as an estimator. In 2002, Mr Perry retired permanently to take car of his wife Mary. In 2002, Russell and Mary moved from Broken Arrow to Hallett where he has continued to reside.
Mr. Perry was a man who could fix anything. He had the knowledge that only few have ever accomplished. He would fix small appliances for people in his spare time. He collected Beanie Babies during that period as well as enjoyed learning the art of Karate. Russell took great pride in caring for his wife Mary that he loved dearly. Mr. Perry was a very disciplined man that was bright and compassionate.
Survivors include his two sons James Perry of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Orville Woodall and his wife Sherri of Guthrie, Oklahoma, two brothers Lee Perry of Hallett, Oklahoma, Gerald Perry and his wife Margarita of Hallett, Oklahoma, two sisters Vida Perry of Madill, Oklahoma, Billie Hyatt and her husband Bill of Hallett, Oklahoma, five grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents Mr. Perry was preceded in death by his wife Mary Louise Perry, two sons Michael Woodall, Calvin Woodall and a daughter Renee Pingleton.
