Ruby was born October 18, 1923 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. As a young girl Ruby later moved to the Chelsea area where she completed her education. She was later united in marriage Homer Dawes in 1941. The couple established their initial home in Bartlesville. Several years following they moved to Chelsea and in 1954, moved to Pryor, Oklahoma. During her time in Pryor, Ruby worked at the local bakery for many years. Following her divorce Ruby moved to Topeka, Kansas in the early 1960Ãs. Ruby soon returned to Tulsa and worked for JC Penney in the clothing department. On January 20, 1970, Ruby was united in marriage to Lyle E. Ward in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple established their home in Terlton. Following the death of her husband Lyle in 1998, Ruby remained in Terlton until 2007. At that time Ruby moved to Claremore to be closer to her son Butch and had been currently residing at the Wood Manor Nursing Home. Ruby enjoyed doing crafts especially making jewelry. Ruby was always content when she was at home. Ruby Leona Ward passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012, in the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years. Survivors are her son Butch Dawes and his wife Debbie of Claremore, Oklahoma, son in law Ron Smith of Foyil, Oklahoma, daughter in law Alice Prill of Terlton, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren, sixteen great Grandchildren, nine great great granddaughter and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by parents, husband Lyle E. Ward, son Lyle Prill, daughter Jan Smith, four sisters Dorothy, Mary, Nora and Margaret. Chapel services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. Harrel Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Mannford, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
