Ruby Swain

Ruby Swain, a resident of Cleveland and formerly of Hominy was born March 7, 1921 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Alvin and Martha (Long) Kennedy. Ruby was raised and received her education in Okemah. After Ruby finished her education she remained in Okemah. While living in Okemah Ruby met John Doyle Swain. Ruby and John was united in marriage on July 11, 1949 at Aurora, Illinois. After their marriage they made their home in several different places. In 1954 they moved to Seminole, Oklahoma where John had accepted employment with Texaco, Inc. Ruby and John later moved to Hominy, Oklahoma in 1963. At that time Ruby gained employment with Munsingwear. Ruby continued to work at Munsingwear for over 11 years when she retired in 1975. In 2002 after 39 years Ruby and John moved to Cleveland.

Ruby loved to work outside in her flower garden as well as loving to cook, bake and sew for her family. Ruby was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Hominy.

Ruby passed away Thursday, February 24, 2005 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years 11 months and 17 days. She was preceded in death by parents and one brother Rubin.

Survived by her husband of over 55 years John Swain of the home; two sons, Bruce and his wife Wilda Swain of Hominy, Oklahoma; Randall and his wife Diana Swain of Hominy, Oklahoma; one sister, Gladys Brown of Hennessey, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Krista Rogers of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Michael and his wife Nikki Swain of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Rayla Swain of Morrison, Oklahoma; Lacey Swain of Cleveland, Oklahoma; three great grandchildren, Dylan and Madelyn Swain both of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Katelyn Rogers of Ponca City, Oklahoma and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 28, 2005 at 11:00 am in the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Kersh officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc of Cleveland, Oklahoma
