Ruby Alta Gill, 98, of Cleveland, Oklahoma passed from this life on June 13, 2020.
Ruby was born March 21, 1922, near Ralston, Oklahoma the daughter of Joseph and Ethel Emeline (Thornberry) Davis. Ruby was raised and attended school in Cleveland. Upon the completion of her education Ruby worked picking cotton, cleaning homes as well as ironing for people in the community. On September 22, 1941, Ruby was united in marriage to Ulysses Simpson Grant “Buster” Gill, Jr. at the church parsonage in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Ruby and Buster established their initial home in Osage before moving to Great Bend, Kansas. Several years later they returned to Osage before moving to Utah. While residing in Utah Ruby helped Buster operate the gas station for several years. They later moved to the Los Angeles area of California. In the early 1960’s the family returned to Osage. Ruby worked as an upholsterer for several years before branching off and opening her own business. She worked many years repairing furniture for customers in the area.
Ruby enjoyed working in the garden, fishing, sewing and quilting. Ruby also worked hard raising her children and making their clothes. She loved to sing and going to the First Assembly of God Church. She is described as a marvelous cook. One of her most memorable trips was to Hawaii.
Ruby is survived by her seven children William Gill and his wife Nina of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Ron Gill and his wife Margaret of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jimmy Gill of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Craig Gill and his wife Natalie of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Teresa Aldridge and her husband Roy of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Garry Gill and his wife Tanya of San Antonio, Texas, Larry Gill and his wife Debbie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, one sister Deana Ellis of Owasso, Oklahoma; sixteen grandchildren, thirty four great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, one great great great granddaughter.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Grant, six siblings Vivian Davis, Delbert Davis, Norma Davis, Cecil Davis, J.D. Davis, Lon Davis; granddaughter Tanya Gill, great grandson Brandon Hillis, one great great great grandson Dedon Cooper Wagoner
Services will be held on 2:00 pm, Friday, June 19, 2020 at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Dan Edens officiating. Burial will be held in the Osage Cemetery at Osage, Oklahoma under the direction Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
