Roy Lester Smith, III was born in Drumright, Oklahoma on June 14, 1977. He was the son of Roy Lester, Jr and Elizabeth (Webb) Smith. Roy was raised in the Bristow area, attending both Bristow and Drumright schools; graduating from Drumright High School in 1996.
While attending high school, Roy participated in welding vocational training at Central Area Vo-Tech in Drumright; obtaining his welding certification. Shortly after graduation he accepted a position with Tank Consultants, assisting in repair and construction of above ground storage tanks for the railroad industry. He traveled significantly while working for the company on projects throughout the United States. He continued to work for Tank Consultants for nearly six years.
Roy was married to Angela Faye Davis on December 23, 1999 and the couple made their initial home in Bristow. They later moved to Cleveland in 2006 where they have been raising their four children, Roy Lester IV, Robert Lee, Lucean Marie and Richard Thomas. While residing in Cleveland, Roy accepted employee working for Earl and Charlene Ready, the Ready Companies for several years before he began working for the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Cleveland where he has been employed for several years.
Roy was a member of the Catholic faith, attending Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Cleveland. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the world’s largest Catholic Fraternal Organizations, dedicated to providing charitable services, promoting Catholic education and actively defending Roman Catholicism in various nations.
Roy loved spending time with his family and participating in his children’s activities. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and especially like taking them on fishing trips to catch bass and crappie. He enjoyed listening to music alongside his wife, Angie, loved visiting family and friends and was usually laughing. He was described by his family as a hardworking man, who was kind hearted and enjoyed helping others. He loved his family and could be a tad bit stubborn at times.
Roy passed from this life after a short illness at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa on Friday, May 13, 2016 at the age of thirty-eight. He is survived by his wife, Angela Faye Smith of the home in Cleveland, Oklahoma; three sons, Roy Lester Smith IV, Robert Lee Smith and Richard Thomas Smith, all of the home; daughter, Lucean Marie Smith of the home;
parents, Roy Lester and Elizabeth Smith, Jr. of Bristow, Oklahoma; brother, Curtis Troy Smith of Bristow, Oklahoma; sister, Angela Dawn Davis of Gallatin, Tennessee; paternal grandmother, Georgia Lee Smith of Bristow, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Roy Lester Smith Sr. and maternal grandparents, Robert and Goldie Webb.
Mass will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on May 17, 2016 at 12:00pm. Family Lunch will be at the First Christian Church at 1:00 May 17th. Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Father Christopher Daigle. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Oakhill Cemetery in Bristow, Oklahoma with Joe Molencupp, under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland.
