Roy Edward Fletcher was born December 10, 1950 in Tulsa County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Roy Earl and Ema Marie (Rigsby) Fletcher. Roy was raised and attended school in Sand Springs, graduating from Charles Page High School in 1969.
Upon graduation from high school, Roy enlisted into the service of his country in the United States Marine Corps. He served for nearly four years on active duty during the Vietnam Conflict, assigned to the 3rd Marine Division in the Far East and Western Pacific as part of the 7th Fleet. Upon his honorable discharge from active duty in 1973, Roy continued to serve in the United States Marine Corps Reserve until January of 1976.
Roy was married to Karen Gilreath on April 26, 1974 in Skiatook, Oklahoma. The couple had three children, Steven, Angie and Kathryn. They made their home near Cleveland for the past thirty years. Upon completion of his military service, Roy accepted employment initially as a custodian with Oklahoma Natural Gas Company. He then accepted employment working for C. E NATCO until the steel plant closed in the late 1970's. Roy then competed his training as an apprentice in the trade of ironworking through the United States Department of Labor on May 16, 1979. He then worked in the Tulsa area as a member of the Ironworkers Local Union 584 for a few years until he was forced to retire for medical reasons.
Roy 's greatest joy came from playing and caring for his kids and grandkids. He was always first to offer help to anyone in need. One of his greatest accomplishment was remodeling a saddle for his wife, Karen and taking care of their livestock and animals. He inspired many young children to learn how to hunt, fish and rope and especially enjoyed assisting the roundup club in their many functions. His love for animals and the outdoors was obvious as he enjoyed spending time on the back of his horse in the woods.
Roy passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at his home near Cleveland at the age of fifty-three years, eight months and twenty-two days. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Erlene Adams and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife, Karen of the home; a son and his wife, Steven Earl and Valerie Fletcher of Mannford, Oklahoma; two daughters, Angie and Scott McDonald of Wynona, Oklahoma and Kathryn Marie and James Edwards of Cleveland, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Wyatt Fletcher, Tyler Fletcher, Byrant Edwards, Cody Crank, Sabrina Crank and Raeann Crank; a brother, Larry Fletcher of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a sister, Lawana Lindahl of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am, Saturday, September 4, 2004 at the Sinnett Cemetery with Dr. Eugene Perry officiating. Burial will be at the Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Robert Hillsberry, Leonard McFarland, H. B. Smith, John Ware, Lonnie Ware, and Earl Barrett.
