Roy Dale Sharpnack, also know as ìWhootieî, was born on November 24, 1914 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. He was the son of Calvin James Sharpnack,, Jr. and Emma (Lofton) Sharpnack. Roy was raised and attended school in Cleveland, graduating from Cleveland High School with the class of 1934. Shortly after graduation, Roy accepted employment with the Johnson Oil Refinery and began a career as a boilermaker working in that capacity for nearly forty years. He was married to the love of his life, Agnes Janice Hooks on April 4, 1936 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. The couple made their home together in Cleveland for over fifty-five years until Janice preceded him in death on April 18, 1991. The couple raised ten children, three sons and seven daughters. Roy continued to work for the local refinery after it was purchased by Kerr-McGee in 1956 until his retirement in 1974. In addition to working at the local refinery, Roy also worked for Annett Furniture Store and Merle Bay Construction Company. Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially loved coon hunting and raising coon dogs as well as camping. Although in his later years he might have forgotten the name of a child or grandchild, Roy never seemed to forget the names of his coon dogs. He loved spending time with his family and was extremely proud of his children and their accomplishments. He also recalled with fondness celebrating holidays and birthdays of his family; especially his own birthday which was always celebrated at a family Thanksgiving feast. Roy passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home (known as the Cleveland Hunting Lodge) at the age of ninety-six. In addition to his wife, Janice, Roy was preceded in death by his parents,; grandchildren, Diane Sanders, Jordon Baird and Scott Lemmons; two brothers, Harry and Robert Sharpnack; a son, Dwane Sharpnack; and two son-in-laws, Terry Hill and Don Jeffries. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Bob and Lois Sharpnack of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Dale and Lois Sharpnack of Hominy, Oklahoma; seven daughters, Bo and Ted Perry of Osage, Oklahoma, Sharon and Jerry Lemmons of Boston Pool, Oklahoma, Janie Hill of Hominy, Oklahoma, Linda and Frank Willcox of Ralston, Oklahoma, Nita and Garry Dugan of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Debi Jeffries of Luther, Oklahoma , Carol and Perry Southern of Pawnee, Oklahoma; twenty-four grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren, ten great great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Mitch and Charlene Sharpnack; and a sister, Mary Ann Sharpnack.
