Ronda Sue Brothers was born August 15, 1952 in Hominy, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of John ìPatî Cobb, Jr. and Leta (Martin) Cobb. Ronda was raised and attended school in Hominy, graduating from Hominy High School in 1970. Shortly after graduation from high school, Ronda began her career in family relations and child development accepting a position as a case manager for United Community Action Program, Inc. (UCAP). During the next several years as she continued to work, Ronda attended Northeastern State University and then completed her education at Oklahoma State University where she obtained a Bachelor Degree in Family Relations and Child Development. As she continued her career, Ronda worked in numerous capacities for UCAP, culminating with her promotion to Early Head Start & Head Start Director. In this capacity, Ronda was responsible for providing educational opportunities to both parents and children in an effort to prepare each child for a lifetime of learning. Through direct service or referral, her staff and division was involved in the efforts to provide families with assistance in child development, adult education, child and adult health services, disability services, emergency services, and mental health services; to ensure that a healthy, happy child is a child ready to learn. Through her leadership and tutor ledge, Ronda provided services for over 1600 children, ages 0-5 and pregnant women through Head Start and Early Head Start Programs in nine counties that cover more than 10% of the state of Oklahoma. Ronda loved her job and challenged herself to provide the best possible services for the children and families of these children. It was often said that she would rather be working than doing anything else. Ronda served in numerous capacities on the Oklahoma Head Start Association Board including President, Vice President and Secretary. Additionally, she served or participated in the Edwin Fair Mental Health Agency Board of Directors, Kiwanis Club, GovernorÃs Early Childhood Policy Council, Oklahoma Child Care Advisory Committee, Oklahoma Early Childhood Association Board of Directors, Oklahoma Healthy Child Task Force, and was appointed to the GovernorÃs Partnership for School Readiness Board Ronda was married to Joel Richard Brothers on May 8, 1987. The couple made their initial home in Cleveland and then later relocated to their home in rural Hominy. They enjoyed spending time outdoors and especially liked to fish. In 1996 Ronda was diagnosed with breast cancer and has fiercely battled the disease of cancer for the past thirteen years. Even after her husband Joel, died as a result of injuries received in an oilfield accident near Shidler, on Friday, April 15, 2005, Ronda persevered in her quest to not allow her health to slow her down at all. She lived by the motto of, ìYou name it, you claim it.î; and she refused give up. She worked tirelessly in the effort to eradicate cancer, participating in numerous events for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization. Ronda was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Wynona after being a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland for many years. She was a dedicated follower of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her actions and demeanor where constant examples of her faith during her daily walk in life. She was described by her family and friends and a classy lady that was driven, confident and perhaps a bit head strong. She truly believed that there was nothing that she could not fix and attempted to help anyone in need ensuring that each person she met appeared to be the most important person in the world and was successful in making you feel that way. Although her legacy will be of a child advocate; exhausting every effort to make the world a better place and educational opportunity for them. Her love and concern for children perhaps came from her being known as a DaddyÃs Girl to her father, Pat Cobb. In addition to spending time outdoors fishing, Ronda loved gardening, horses, sports cars and antiques. Throughout the years, she had many trusted companions such as her dogs PoPo and Gizmo; she also loved cats. Ronda was escorted by the angels to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the age of fifty-seven. In addition to her husband Joel, Ronda was preceded in death by her father, John ìPatî Cobb, Jr. She is survived by Survivors are her mother, Leta Marie Cobb of Hominy, Oklahoma; a son, Scott Brothers of Arcata, California; and her fiancÈe, Theral Lane of Wynona, Oklahoma.
