Ronald "Ronnie" Lee Bevins

Ronald Lee “Ronnie” Bevins was born February 4, 1947 in Blackburn, Oklahoma. He was the son of Clifford and Bonnie (Callison) Bevins. Ronnie was raised and received his early childhood education in Blackburn. He later attended Pawnee Schools where he graduated from high school in 1965. While attending high school, Ronnie was an active member of the Pawnee Black Bear Basketball team.

Shortly after graduation, Ronnie was married to Sherry Marie Taber in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 15, 1965. Following their marriage, Ronnie and Sherry moved to Tulsa. They later moved to Hominy before establishing their home in Cleveland. Sherry and Ronnie remained in Cleveland where they raised their children, Darren and Lisa. Sherry preceded Ronnie in death on October 3, 2011.

After graduation, Ronnie accepted a position in the steel shop of Flint Steel for several years where he was an active member of the Boilermakers Union. He later completed the welder’s certification program at Tulsa Junior College. He then accepted employment with Tower Components in Catoosa where he served as supervisor for nearly thirty years, retiring in 2015.

Sherry and Ronnie loved to visit Eureka Springs and walk up and down Main Street looking through the shops. They also enjoyed Branson but were always compelled to return to Eureka springs for the small town atmosphere.

Ronnie’s hobbies included fishing for both crappie and catfish; deer hunting and working in his yard. He enjoyed college football and basketball and was a University of Oklahoma Sooner fan. He also like to watch old western shows on television; especially John Wayne films and enjoyed listening to 60’s and 70’s music. He was described by his family as a very independent man that liked keeping to his self and was somewhat of a perfectionist; wanting everything to be done just right. He loved spending time with his family including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was extremely fond of eating catfish.

Ronnie passed from this life on Friday, May 6, 2016 at his home near Cleveland at the age of sixty-nine. In addition to his wife, Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Judy Bevins. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa and her husband Philip Hall of Cleveland, Oklahoma; a son, Darren Bevins of Blackburn, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Kevin and his wife Nicky Bevins, Brandon and his wife Raina Bevins, Heather Hall, and Brandy Hall; seven great-grandchildren, Kaylee Bevins, Brevin Bevins, Bentley Bevins, Leiton Bevins, Zakkary Upton, Emily Upton, and Jasen Hall; sister, Helen Long of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three brothers, Bill Bevins of Perry, Oklahoma, Bob and Janice Bevins of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and Joe and Emmy Bevins of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends who will mourn his passing.

Burial will follow at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends may sign the guest book on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
