Roger Lee Smith was born June 11, 1963 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Bobby Ray and Patty Rae (Powell) Smith. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Death Valley, California and then later returned to Cleveland where Roger received his education. Roger was a graduate of Cleveland High School with the Class of 1981. Upon the completion of his education, Roger began a career in the oilfields of Northeastern Oklahoma working for Charlie Dell. He later accepted a position as a salesman for Fechner Pump and Supply in Cleveland, serving the oil and gas industry in northeastern and northwestern Oklahoma Following injuries received in an automobile accident, Roger was medically retired. Roger will be remembered for his witty personality and fun loving spirit. He enjoyed making people laugh and having a good time. Roger was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Cleveland. Roger was an excellent mechanic and he enjoyed repairing and restoring cars; he also enjoyed racing cars. Additionally, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Roger passed away at his home in Tulsa, on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the age of forty-nine. He was preceded in death by his parents Patty Smith on June 19, 1998 and Bob R. Smith on August 28, 2001. Roger is survived by his son, Brandon Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a brother and his wife, Ralph and Kim Smith of Cleveland, Oklahoma; a sister and her husband, RuthAnn and Chris Newman of Cleveland, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Keira Raye Smith, Kylee Katrena Smith and Kailey Lauren Smith; and his companion and special friend, RayeAnn Blaylock of Tulsa. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Following cremation, Roger will be interred at the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
