Roberta Jewel Carter was born March 23, 1925 in Drumright, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of A. L. and Hattie Green. Roberta was raised in the Drumright area and attended Norfolk school.
Roberta was married to Orville T. Carter on December 6, 1945 in Stennet, Texas. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to California where Roberta worked as a welder. The couple later moved to Amarillo, Texas where Robert accepted employment working as a nurse at High Plains Hospital. The couple moved to Keystone, Oklahoma from Amarillo and Roberta immediately began working as a floor nurse in one of the cottages at Hissom Memorial Center in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. She continued to work at Hissom until she retired on July 1, 1987.
Upon her retirement, Roberta and Orville traveled together to many places in their travel trailer, visiting family and friends. They returned to Keystone in 1992 and continued to reside in the Keystone area until Orville preceded her in death on April 8, 1996 after fifty-years of marriage. Roberta was a longtime member of the Keystone General Baptist Church and faithfully attended services until her health prohibited her from attending. She loved her church and especially enjoyed gospel singing.
Roberta passed away on Friday, November 9, 2001 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of seventy-six years, seven months and sixteen days. In addition to her husband, Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jon Carter; a brother Robert; and a sister, Lorene.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Karrin Carter, Cleveland, Oklahoma; grandsons, Terry Carter, Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Ted Carter, Keystone, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Erika Brewer, Cleveland, Oklahoma; six great grandchildren, Cody, John, & Courtney, Jacob, Ryan, & Lasey, and a brother, Charles Green, California.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, October 12, 2001 at the Keystone General Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Stottlemyre officiating. Burial will be at the Sinnet Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
