Robert Marion Long, longtime resident of Hallett, Oklahoma, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the age of 65 years, four months and twenty-five days.
Bob was born June 18, 1950, in Pawnee, Oklahoma. He was the son of Otis Marion and Virginia Lee (Wiggins) Long. As a young man Bob went to school in Hallett until the fifth grade. Following the closure of the school Bob began attending school in Cleveland where he later graduated with the Class of 1968. Following high school Bob worked until he joined the United States Navy on July 13, 1970. Bob served his country upon the USS Fox. During his time in the military Bob, received the following decorations and citations: Nations Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. Following his discharge on June 28, 1972, Bob returned to the Cleveland Area and gained employment with Osage Oil as a mechanic. Bob continued there until he accepted a position with Dowell, North of Hominy, Oklahoma. Following the closure of the operation, Bob began working at Peterbilt in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He later accepted a job with Tulsa Freightliner and was later sold to Penske Trucks and was renamed Premier Trucking. Bob was united in marriage to Roberta Lea Burnett on March 20, 2007. Bob worked until August of 2015, when he was forced to retire due to medical reasons.
Bob enjoyed working on autos. He also enjoyed spending time in the garden. He was a John Wayne enthusiast and loved reading Louis Lamoure stories as well as listening to gospel quartets. He has been a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Terlton, Oklahoma. Bob enjoyed making people laugh and always had a good sense of humor.
Survivors are his wife Roberta of the home, son Scott Allen and his wife Sherry of Tyler, Texas; two siblings Elaine James and her husband Carl of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Mark Long and his wife Janie of Hallett, Oklahoma; step children Darla Phillips and her husband Branson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Katie Young of Pawnee, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren Destiny Allen, Cassi, John, Kristalyn and Cadence Powell, Brayden and Haylee Phillips and many other relatives and friends that will mourn his passing. In addition to his parents Bob was preceded in death by his sister Martha "Marty" Marszal.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday, November 16, 2015 at the Terlton Baptist Church with Pastor Justin Villines officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery in Pawnee, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com
