Graveside services for Robert Edward Taylor, of Prue, Oklahoma will be held Thursday, 2:00 pm, April 26, 2007 in the Prue Cemetery. Officiating services will be Pastor Mike Hoyt under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Bob was born August 24, 1926 in Barnsdall, Oklahoma the son of John and Laura (Trisler) Taylor. Bob grew up in Barnsdall where he graduated high school. As a young man Bob was very active playing football as well as other sports. Soon after graduation, Mr. Taylor moved to Broken Arrow where he accepted employment with Braden Winch and then later for Honeywell. Bob entered in to the service of his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was later medically discharged and returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma. On July 28, 1950, Bob was united in marriage to Shirley Lou (Dees) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Taylor accepted a position with DX Refinery in Tulsa and later was promoted to a lab technician. Mr. Taylor continued to work as a lab technician after the purchase of the DX Refinery by Sun Oil and continued working there until his retirement.
Mr. Taylor had many accomplishments; one of them included building their current home at Island View during his vacation time and days off. While Bob was building their home, the family would campout on the property in a ìTea Houseî that he also constructed. Mr. Taylor also enjoyed spending time with his family boating and traveling to OU football games. He also cherished the time spent with Shirley taking cruises, traveling to Europe and playing golf. Bob was a man that felt ìIf you want it done right do it yourselfî. BobÃs family describes him as a man with a quiet sense of humor and patient who provided and took care of their every need.
Mr. Taylor went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, April 23, 2007, at his home in Prue, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years 7 months and 29 days. He was preceded in death by father John Taylor, mother Laura Buffington, two brothers Mack and Bill, as well as two sisters Lena and Eva.
Survived by his loving wife of over 56 years Shirley; two daughters, Kelly Nutt and husband William of Skiatook, Oklahoma; Toni Storm and husband Phillip of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one sister, Juanita Hilderbrand of Barnsdall, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Robert D. and Ryan W. Horton, Rusty Burkhalter, Rachal Lillard, five great grandchildren, Robert, Erin, Haley and Jaydin Horton, Isaac Lillard as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
