Robert Charles Thomison, life long resident of Cleveland was born March 14, 1933 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Mackie and Mary (Parks) Thomison. At a young age the family moved to Cleveland where Robert was raised and received his education. Robert was active in sports while attending Cleveland High School. Robert was a letterman in football, basketball as well as track; his nick name was ìGolden Toe Bobî. In 1953 Robert graduated from Cleveland High School and was offered a scholarship at the University of Tulsa which he accepted. Robert played collegiate football for about three months and was soon called to active duty of his country.
Robert served his country in the United States Army. While in the Army Robert played football during his tour overseas in Germany and was also on the boxing team. In 1956 after two years of service Robert returned home to Cleveland, Oklahoma.
On July 13, 1956 Robert was united in marriage to Evelyn McWilliams. Robert and Evelyn raised two children Bobby and Teresa. They made their home in Cleveland except for a short time when Robert was employed with Atlantic Richfield. While working for Atlantic Richfield as a supervisor they made their home in New Mexico. In 1973 after eight years Robert moved the family back to Cleveland when he retired.
Robert was very active in the Cleveland Community he was a member of the Kiwanis, Masons, Shrines and the Cleveland First United Methodist Church. Robert loved to play golf, fish, hunt, watch boxing or any sports activities and having coffee with his friends. Robert was very impressed with the beauty of Europe he stated that it was one of the most beautiful places he had ever seen.
Roberts special memories were the numerous times that he got to spend with his wife, children and grandkids. He also cherished the many medals that he won in sporting activities that he participated in as well as the golf trophy he posses and the medals that he obtained while serving his country.
Robert passed away Monday morning December 8, 2003 at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age of 70 years 8 months and 24 days. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, wife Evelyn and a bother Billy Mac Thomison.
Surviving are his son Bobby and wife Christine Thomison of Pryor, Oklahoma; daughter, Teresa and husband Von Coggins of Cleveland, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Michael Brown, Hayley Brown, Tiffany Coggins, Cristal Collier, Tina Stultz and Bobby Charles Thomison II, seven great grandchildren Alexis, Dylan and Payton Brown, Jace Collier, Brittany, Chealsea, and Tyler as well as a special friend, Wanda Banta of Pawnee, Oklahoma and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday December 12, 2003 at 2:00 pm in the First United Methodist Church with services officiated by Rev. Jerry Abbott. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
