Rita Hunter Hill Sykes was born July 18, 1935 in San Antonio, TX to Aaron Hunter and Marguerite Matin. She departed this life on December 4, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital.
In 1940, she was adopted by Raymond J. Hill. Rita attended school at St. Louis Boarding School in Pawhuska, OK, Loretto Academy in St. Louis, MO. and Tucson High School in Tucson, AZ. She obtained her GED in Los Angeles, CA.
Rita lived in Los Angeles for over 30 years, returning home to Hominy in 1984. She was a multi-talented lady with varied interests. She was a licensed cosmetologist, jewelry maker, avid reader, great gin rummy player, excellent candy maker and a good friend to many young adults. Rita was also fluent in Japanese and Spanish.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Tashira Iwanmoto and her husband Herb Sykes.
She is survived by her sisters: Rosa-Raye Pledger, Belle (John) Wilson and Regina Hill; her brothers Joe (Ann) Freeman, Everett (Marian) Waller and Jake (Crissy) Waller all of Hominy, OK.; 17 nieces & nephews and 15 great nieces & nephews.
Traditional Osage Services will be conducted by Mograin Lookout on Friday, December 7th at 9 am at the home of Everett Waller in Hominy. Services are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland.
