Richard Leon Lewis

Richard Leon Lewis was born July 20, 1934 in Muskogee, Oklahoma; the son of Albert and Mollie (Sanders) Lewis. He moved with his family as a youth to Jenks, Oklahoma where he received his education. Richard also resided in the Oakhurst area for a short time.

Upon completion of his education at the age of eighteen, Richard entered into the service of his country in the United States Army. He served honorably in Korea during the Korean War and returned to Tulsa upon his discharge from military service.

Upon his return to Oklahoma, Richard worked in numerous capacities before attending machinist school. After completion of machinist school, Richard accepted employment with Baird Manufacturing, where he worked building various valves and parts used in the oilfield industry. He later attended American Truck Driving School and began driving trucks for companies across the United States including, Commercial Carrier Corporation, CRST International Trucking and Don Co. Richard later accepted employment with Oklahoma Tank Line in Tulsa, delivering gasoline to local businesses. He then returned to Baird Manufacturing for a period of time before accepting employment with ARK Wrecking Company, a demolition and recycling company.

Richard was united in marriage to Dora F. Lee on June 9, 1955 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Tulsa, moving to Sapulpa in 1969. After nearly seventeen years in Sapulpa the couple returned to Tulsa for nearly ten years before moving to south of Jennings, Oklahoma in 1996. The couple had three children, Ronald, Calvin and Deborah. His activities and hobbies included fishing, hunting, bowling and tinkering on electrical items and motors. During the 1960s, Richard was an avid race car enthusiast at the Tulsa Motor Speedway. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a caring and loving person. He was recently baptized in November of 2007 into the family of Jesus Christ at the Victory Christian Center in Tulsa.

Richard passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of seventy-three years and six months. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Lee Lewis and Mollie Carveal; brother, Milton Lewis; two half-brothers, William and James Gruette and a sister, Ruby Meads.

Richard is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Dora F Lewis of the home; three children, Ronald Lewis of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Calvin Lewis and his wife, Shonna of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Deborah Cue Lewis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers, Ralph Lewis of Jennings, Oklahoma and Tommy Lewis of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; three granddaughters, Jennifer Lewis of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Danie Lewis of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Cheyenne Lewis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a great granddaughter, Cheyenne Lewis, Tulsa, Oklahoma and his companion and friend, MoJo.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at First Assembly of God in Jennings with Pastor J. W. Wright officiating. Burial will be at the Jennings Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeal Home.
