Richard Gordon Herold, Sr.

Richard ''Red'' Gordon Herold Sr., a resident of Shell Knob, Missouri was born March 1, 1930 in Port Jefferson, Long Island New York to Frederick and Emily (McKee) Herold. Red was raised and received his education in Long Island and graduated from Saville High School with the Class of 1948. Upon his completion of high school Red joined the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. During his stay in the Navy Red learned what later became his lifeís work, as an aviation mechanic. When Red returned from the Navy he made his home in Long Island where he gained employment as a aircraft mechanic for Aero Trades. Then later on March 2, 1957 he was united in marriage to ìThe Light of His Lifeî Lois Caroline (Smith) in Marathon, New York. Red later obtained his Aircraft and Powerplant License. After he received his license Red began working for Long Island Airways as their Chief Mechanic from the late 1960's until 1972. Red then accepted employment with Cities Service which later became Occidental Oil servicing the executive jets. Red and Lois moved to Collinsville, Oklahoma in 1974 when he was transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Red retired with Occidental Oil in 1989. When he retired they moved to Shell Knob, Missouri where he and Lois have lived since.

Red loved sailing, building rock retaining wall, traveling with his family in his RV to many different places in the North America. Red gave his life to the Lord in 1970 and was an active member of the Faith Christian Family Church in Eureka Springs, Arkansas as well as a First Responder, Lieutenant with the Fire Department in Shell Knob, Missouri and Past President of Owens Community Center in Shell Knob, Missouri.

Richard was an excellent husband, father and many would say that he was a mechanical and electrical wizard.

Red passed away June 4, 2002 in Jennings, Oklahoma at his daughterís home at the age of 72 years 3 months and 3 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Eileen McLamb, and an infant sister Evelyn.

Survived by his wife, Lois Herold, of the home; children, Richard Gordon Herold, Jr. and wife LeeAnn of Murrieta, California; Evelyn Ruth Keeling and husband Stacey of Cleveland, Oklahoma; brother Frederick Herold of St. Croix Virgin Islands; four grandchildren, Everet and Joel Herold of Murrieta, California; Corinna and Logan Keeling of Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, June 8, 2002 at 2:00 pm at the Faith Christian Family Church in Eureka Springs, Arkansas with Pastor Gary Hayhurst officiating the services. Visitation will be held Thursday June 6, 2002 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Faith Christian Church in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
