Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com Rex was born March 27, 1936, in Pawnee, Oklahoma. He was the son of James Russell and Berniece Lee(Bradley) Sneed. As a young man Rex began his education in Yale, Oklahoma. At the completion of his education Rex began working at the age of 13 on the pipeline. He later joined the United States Marine Corps on May 5, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended basic training at Camp Pendleton, California; where he was stationed until his honorable discharge December 21, 1955. During his time enlisted; Rex saw action in Korea and received the following decorations and citations: National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Rex returned to Yale, Oklahoma following discharge and soon returned working on the pipeline. On January 14, 1967, Rex was united in marriage to Shirley Alexander and to that union there is one daughter Candi. Rex has worked in the Philippines, Australia, Bolivia, Iran, Brazil and Nigeria. He was the General Superintendent on jobs for White and Sons and Four-Four. Rex also worked for Panhandle Pipeline, Australian Pipeline Contractors, Williams Brothers, Halcor, Neil and Associates and for Lomax amongst others. Rex began his career as a laborer and later became an operator and moved up to become the tie-in-foreman. He also worked as a testing foreman and coating foreman for several years. In the late 1990's, Rex began Inspecting. He worked as a Chief Inspector until Shirley was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. Rex retired so that he would be able to care for the lady he loved dearly. Rex is known as one of the most knowledgeable pipelines there is and he truly loved the pipeline. He worked for the Operating Engineers from 1949 till 2011. Rex enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, working in the garden and tending to his rose bushes. He also was a avid car collector. Rex enjoyed restoring them and entering them in local car shows. Rex was a 32nd Degree lifetime member of the Jennings Masonic Lodge. Rex Leon Sneed passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at the Ardmore Veterans Center at the age of 79 years. Survivors are two daughter Candi Draper and her husband Brent of Jennings, Oklahoma, Diana Archer of Ponca City, Oklahoma; step children Rickey Neely of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Susie Cooks of Bristow, Oklahoma, Debby Cope of Las Vegas, Nevada, LeeAnn Halvorson of Drumright, Oklahoma, one brother Bill Sneed and his wife Betty of Kamloops, BC, sister Betty Beckenhoff of Edmond, Oklahoma, brother in law Jackie Alexander of Jennings, Oklahoma; seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, one son Craig, five brothers Herb, Cliff, Everett, Leroy and two sisters Stella and Orpha.
