Raymond Cheary

Raymond Mathew Nathaniel Cheary, of Oilton, Oklahoma, 83, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Raymond was born July 25, 1933, in Jenks, Oklahoma. He was the son of James Nathaniel and Pauline Opal (Howell) Cheary. Ray grew up in Sand Springs at The Tulsa Boys home following the death of his parents. After graduation from Sand Springs High School, Ray joined the United States Army. Ray served his country during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on June 30, 1961. Soon after his return from the military Ray, was united in marriage to Sally Sue Holland, which later ended in divorce. Ray returned to the Sand Springs area gaining employment at Sears. He worked a short time in the credit department before accepting a position with Armco Steel. On March 12, 1971, Ray was united in marriage in Jay, Oklahoma Wanda Mae Younger. Following their marriage, Ray and Jo moved to Oilton, Oklahoma. Ray retired from Sheffield Steel in 1990.

Following retirement, Ray enjoyed building ponds on his property. He also spent many hours working in his shop and being outside. Ray also liked to spend time fishing, whittling making small crafts. He also loved the times when his family and grandchildren were around for get togethers. Ray always looked forward to the time that blackberries and strawberries were in season and taking his grandkids to pick them.

Survivors are his six children and one honorary child, James Michael Cheary and his wife Gayla of Glencoe, Oklahoma, Timmy Ray Cheary and his wife Becky of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Michael Wayne Cheary and his wife Toni of Oilton, Oklahoma, Amanda Jo Casey and her husband Steve of Oilton, Oklahoma, Linda Dalene Poole and her husband Billy of Oilton, Oklahoma, Raymond Shawn Cheary and his wife Fran of Charlotte, North Carolina, Shelly Gilley of Oilton, Oklahoma; one brother David Cheary of California; nineteen grandchildren Britney Poole, Billy "Bubba" Poole, Jessica and Kevin Begley, Cody and Chad Wikel, Dani and Joseph Bock, John Michael Cheary, Olivia Cheary, Oren Cheary, Stacy Marshall, Shallyn and Jason Rush, Nathan and Bekah Cheary, Caiti Cheary, Brett Cheary, Bianca and Blake Barnes, Kelby Alexander, Rickashae Gilley, Gabrielle Damarin, Jayce Damarin, Gabby Gilbreath; nine great grandchildren Chasidy, Chevy and Carson Wikel and Koltin and Braxtin Begley, Hadley Bock, Braytin Barnes, Jedda Poole, Pierson Rush as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jo on November 28, 2010, brother Donald Cheary, two sisters Edna McCabe, Evelyn Cheary and a granddaughter Kimberly Cheary.
