Pluma Anna Searcy, of Mannford was born June 28, 1922 in Gardena, California to Berry and Anna M (Elliott) Leach. Pluma was raised and received her education in Gardena where she graduated high school. Upon her graduation two days later Pluma was united in marriage to Eugene Sanford Searcy in Gardena, California on June 29, 1940. Pluma and Gene remained in California for many years. During that time Pluma worked as a Union Checker. She also was employed at Bellanca Air in Torrance California as a Fabric Installer on airplanes. During World War II Pluma worked for North American building B-25 Bombers. In 1964 Pluma and Gene moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. They remained in Tulsa until 1982 when they moved to Mannford, Oklahoma when they established her current home.
Pluma enjoyed sewing and knitting for Gene and Ron. She had always hand made their shirts and suits. Pluma was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine AABA court #4 and the Indian Unit where they would dress up in special garments and dance.
She passed away Thursday January 23, 2003 at her home in Mannford, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years 6 months and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene, two daughters Shirley, and Sharon and one sister Frances Leach.
Surviving are her son Ron Searcy of the home, eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Tuesday January 28, 2003 at 2:00 pm at Chapman-Black Chapel with services officiated by CPT Michael Searcy. The cremains will be intered on the family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. Services are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
